Ford truck speedo no op
This ain't 460 related, although there is a 460 in the truck. My 97 F350 speedo quit, ABS light on, Overdrive light flashing, shifts hard. I think this a pretty common problem and am hoping someone can steer me in the right direction. I replaced the VSS in the diff. and no change. I ran the codes from the rear ABS computer by grounding jumper wire at glovebox, got a code 16 indicating the ABS module is working properly.
Speedo is dead, never was erratic before, just quit when the fault lights came on. I wouldn't think the ring on the rear gear would be bad since speedo never jumped around...but?
Is the PSOM the next place to look? Is there a way to test the PSOM?
I guess I'll inspect the wire harness leading from the VSS next for damage. Any suggestions?
Thanks

Jon (richter69) would be the guy to answer that. You might do a search on the other site, I think he's answered that before.

Did you check every fuse with a test light. I'd check for codes at the engine bay connector.
Did the Speedo just quit and then the ABS Light or was the ABS light on then the Speedo quit?

Yeah, been through all the fuses in the cab and engine bay. It all went dead at once. I'm gonna get under the truck and check for a bad wire.
Thanks

A couple months ago I found two speed sensors, one on the rear, one one the output shaft of the transmission,
might check to see if yours has two also. If I remember correctly the one I was working on just lost the
cruise control, but I dont remember exactly what all the problems were.

sounds to me that either the speed sensor or tone ring got damaged some how in the rear died or the conversion box under the dash gave up on you to kill off that much stuff
Re: Ford truck speedo no op
is your regular "red" brake light on and do your turn signals work?
Dont put too many miles on it like that...the trans will probably be in limp mode.

Red brake light is not on and the turn signals work. Thanks for all the ideas guys. Ive gotta get this resolved this week before I haul the car to the track again. That's the only time this truck is driven.

OK, it is fixed! I had taken the gauge cluster out and probed the grey/black wire that has the signal for speed, and there was no voltage going down the road. So, I got back underneath the truck and found a broken wire in the wire harness. All good now. Thanks for everyone's input.
