I already know I don't want another diesel.
Thinking about a HD F150 or an Expedition....... Hummmm.....
Or maybe something small and a used dually.......

I've been using a 2011 Ford diesel. Bad ass!! 28ft enclosed trailer, car, golf cart, close to 1000lbs of ice and 500 or 600lbs tools and such. 15-16mpg. used to get around 10 with my duramax.

Re: Thinking about buying a new truck
Well I've already decided it not going to be a diesel...... To scared of the repair bills, they cost to freaking much to buy / maintain and the fuel ecomony sucks on the new ones from what I've been hearing. Only reason I purchased the diesel last round was it was a late 06 leftover, 0% financing, a whole bunch of rebates, $$ off sticker and a bunch for my trade. I don't believe Ford is giving any SD diesel away like that right now.
The 5.4, 6 speed.3.73 HD towing package looks decent in the F150's (I'm considering one) the 5.4 pkg in the Expedition (not as heavy) but still rated at about what I need. As far as the superdutys they are nice trucks but ford thinks they are made of gold....I'm leaning away form them.
I tow a 26' enclosed trailer what seems the be a few dozen times a year and I'm past the point in my life of needing to go 110 mph up a mountian.... If you know what I mean? I have towed with a half ton Dodge 5.7 hemi prior to this F350 and other than the Dodge being a POS it had plenty of power. The trailers is about 3700, car 3100 and gear about 1000 = about 7800 and we'll round up to 8500 for safe limit.
I'm also considering a smaller SUV, Car or F150 and buying a seperate used older dually, a friend has a 1ton Chevy dually that needs a little work for $1500 454 auto, 4.10's, gas pig yes, chevy Junk Yes but for the $$$ and time it will be used may be worth a look, even thinking about finding a 350 like Blake has???

Re: Thinking about buying a new truck
The old 7.3 are way freaking expensive too, seen a bunch of them beat to death and guys are still wanting $15+k WTF
I'm thinking Old School Gas Big Block 460 or (cough Cough) 454, hell I can put 2 motors in one for the price of 1/2 a diesel (not counting the initial buy in cost) and for all the more miles I'll put on it Fuel cost isn;t a big deal!!!

Re: Thinking about buying a new truck
Dave, if you are going new just wait a little longer. Them 3 new motors that's coming in the new F150 will pack a big punch!! I know Ford is going to down grade the HP & tq numbers but the dyno sheets don't lie! The 5.4 don't come close to the new 5.0 numbers for tq and HP!!
I took a new F-150 home for a few days and this thing is a beast! I'm going to try and get one for this weekend so I can tow my buddy's 28ft in closed trailer with his race car in it to Milan for the Super Ford day!
If they would let us change the calibration on the trans in that truck OMG!!
ONE CALIBRATION FITS ALL SHIT SUCKS DONKEYS BALL

Re: Thinking about buying a new truck
I would listen to D. I wish I would've listened to Adam and waited 6 months for the new 2011 diesel to come out with...
The older 7.3s are not hard to work on either. Parts are plentiful and you can work on it yourself. My 2001 is easier to maintain than my 2008. Actually looking to get rid of my 2008 soon and continue to rack the miles on the 2001. It's already got 329,000 on it. Still has factory injectors. Once those are changed it should be fine. The compression still reads on the high end according to the shop manual.

If staying with a gas engine the Superduty with a 6.2 i think is the way to go.
Thats the way i'm gonna go with my next truck when its time to trade off the current grocery getter.

I really hate to say it but if you are looking just for a cheap puller, go with a 94-98 Dodge cummins. Very cheap to maintain and gets great mileage. Just ugly, loud, and well.................ugly and they are rough. I had a farm/work truck with a little over 300k that still got 20+ on the highway empty and 18+ pulling a 24ft open trailer with Maverick, tool box, and Polaris 4-wheeler on it. I see them down here for $1500-4500 all day every day. I had it from around 200K-300k and the only thing I replaced besides regular maintenance was the clutch and head gasket from a freak fishing accident (don't ask).
