Re: Let the 466 mayhem begin...
The converter goes in twice and if it wasn't all the way in and you tightened the trans down tight you have broke the front pump??
some times you have to spend the c/v a lot.

Re: Let the 466 mayhem begin...
That actually happened to my brothers bronco. But they didn't spin the converter on I guess...I didn't do any of the work. And it popped farther onto the shaft a good three times when I spun it on.res0rli9 wrote:The converter goes in twice and if it wasn't all the way in and you tightened the trans down tight you have broke the front pump??

Re: Let the 466 mayhem begin...
Dang its been a while... I've had this thing running, I just haven't been on here in the longest time. I need to cut my bed floor out and tub it with an all new sheetmetal floor (if you have any ideas or suggestions let me know please), still coming up with ideas. Then I will know what tires and rims I can fit. Also need to run the brake lines.

Re: Let the 466 mayhem begin...
Driven it a few times, needs rear shocks, a few extra bolts, and I have to mount my 5 point harness. I'm scheduled to align the front end this Friday, not sure how that will go since its 2wd I beams with kingpins. I've done some newer stuff though. Only issue I'm having is the front brakes don't want to release, I fixed it but it's back. Not sure what it is yet.

[quote] Did you replace the rubber lines from the wheel cylinders to the hard lines on the frame ?,those will collapse when you press the brake and it will take afew minutes before they will release if everything else has been replaced . Hope this helps,MavMan

Looks good justin.
can you explain your comment on not being sure how the alignment will go because the I beams are 2wd?
Looks like the camber is off from your photo. (Top of the tire leaned out)

Re: Let the 466 mayhem begin...
Literally everything, lines, hoses, wheel cylinders, master cylinder, calipers, rotors, pads, are new minus the combination valve. That's the only thing I didn't get new, everything else is new including the metering block on the axle.
As far as alignment, it's way off. Looking straight on you can see it even more, it has a ton of positive camber. (not sure why). I see a lot of people saying that they have to bend the i beams, but I think there should be another way.

Re: Let the 466 mayhem begin...
The spring length is the only other way to adj the camber on these. Change to softer springs, cut a coil off or heat em u up to lower it down and bring the camber closer to neutral.
I've aligned mine myself more than once, but I had the tubular dropped I beams that you cannot adj the caster on..only toe in and camber...

Looks like it has the wrong spring in it too me...
Make sure you have a 1/2 ton V-8 spring in there before you modify the current springs...

Re: Let the 466 mayhem begin...
It was fine before the restoration, with the same engine and trans. I never took them out though so I don't see why they changed, maybe I lost a lot of weight? I'll try to find an old picture of it to double check.dirt_worker wrote:Looks like it has the wrong spring in it too me...

Re: Let the 466 mayhem begin...
Sure thing, and maybe it just needs to be driven a bit more to settle in? Or... crap, when I swapped to disk brakes, the rotors sat back farther than the drums by a lot. Maybe because they are further in it's screwing with the geometry? I bet that did it...

Re: Let the 466 mayhem begin...
what did the brakes come off...curious? Mine were off a 78f100 and my calipers were mounted on the rear of the rotor.
the twin i beams do need to settle in some but if you rolled in front and back or drove it any it should be already settled. wonder if the ibeams are meant for a left and right?

X2 my calipers are in the rear and not in the front mine came out of a 74 f100 yes they are a right and left on the I-beam if my memory serves me correct been 15 or 16 years ago when I done mine so I might be wrong

Re: Let the 466 mayhem begin...
I couldn't find any of those spindles and I needed to convert everything to the 5x4.5 pattern. So I used some brainpower, looked up different parts, mocked stuff up, custom made the setup myself. The rotors and bearings are for a 80 f100 with 5.4.5 lug pattern, the seal is the same as my original 67 drum setup, the calipers and lines are for a (I know) chebby suburban. The mounting brackets are custom made by me. Drilled and tapped it all. I knew they could be mounted on the front because that is how the 60's f250 disk brakes mounted up. Oh and they are the stock drum brake spindles.
So yeah, it's a whole lot of different stuff but you gotta give me some credit for figuring that all out myself only thing I didn't figure out myself was that the 80 f100 rotors had a 5x4.5 lug pattern. But no one told me I could make em work on these spindles.
Ps: I want to be a chassis fabricator or engine builder

Re: Let the 466 mayhem begin...
I know, when they were locked up I told my buddy "she's just mad at me right now for using chevy stuff on her" But I found out from the parts store that those calipers are actually used on a lot of things. Like jeeps even. I just used them because of the way they tighten down and I was able to make a plate for them.

Thank you My hopes are to race it at my usual race which is April 27th this year. I figured I would debut it there, or race the maverick which also has a new setup. I wanna race both!

The toe was way off, causing the camber to go out of whack when I rolled it. It's fixed, now I'm working on lowering it.

Re: Let the 466 mayhem begin...
So I blead the brakes with the disk master cylinder today, everything works just peachy
And the pedal is a whole lot stiffer than before also requiring less travel to get tight
FINALLY!!!
