Build it like YOU want it. Just build it right, and you can't go wrong. Look at my truck. I've gotten lots of advise on it, but it still ended up how I wanted it, & when it's fully completed, it will definitely raise a few more eyebrows.

It's the building it right part I have problems with sometimes

Exactly!
I would have to say that you just didn't come up against the right small block, or the track was just wide open with very few corners.
Yeah, that's it, 'cause you were there. FYI, there were only maybe 3, or 4 straight stretches on a 2-1/2 mile course, and the rest was all corners, from short chutes to 180's. My car was optimum for how it was built. Perhaps there may have been a SB something or other out there. But never in the 3 races that I ran in at this particular facility.
G'night. I'm getting bored with people telling me how my stuff works.

Re: Think I found a use for my 429, need opinions
Doug, I never doubted or impugned you skills. I love your truck, I think it's great. This basically started with a discussion about weight in the cars, let me elaborate:
Inertia: The tendency of a body to resist acceleration, in other words a body at rest tends to remain at rest.
The tendency of a body in motion to stay in motion (in the direction it is going).
So for a body of a certain weight it will resist a change in direction with X amount of force, if you lessen the weight the amount of force to resist change also lessens.
So if you have two identically prepared cars, one with an iron BBF and the other with an aluminum BBF (HP and torque equal) the lighter one will dominate.
Maybe that's the problem Doug, you need to listen more and not get so sensitive about stuff when someone is bringing up a point that is valid. I have no doubt that you won those three races, but that doesn't mean you had an optimum combination.
I just love it when someone gets into a discussion on the forum and they have differing viewpoints. When the guy with nothing to back up his worthless opinion just pulls up his pants and goes home crying.

Mat, you could always go road racing in a Gran Torino . That 4 linked 9" on it's azz end was put there for a reason, just be sure to leave the rear sway bar OFF.

Re: Think I found a use for my 429, need opinions
My point is very valid. As I said earlier, my car was optimum, "for how it was built". I agree, I could have changed some things and done better with a small block. But I liked the BB's, and still do, so I built the car around the engine. And IF I ever do it again, I'll use a BBF just to be different, and IF done right, it will work. And for the record, nobody went home crying. I actually had a good time debating my opinion, and I'll stand by it. It all boils down to opinion, you build it your way, I'll build it my way. Yours is optimum for your set-up, and mine's optimum for my set-up. and on and on. Have a great day Joe, & hey, I still love ya man.

No hard feelings Doug, you've still got a nice truck, and you do a good job at everything you do. It was kind of nice getting the brain cells working last night. Good luck with the upcoming race. Oh, and sorry for the "going home crying" comment, it was out of line.

I'm thinking Matt Robinson would definately not agree that the small block stuff is better. As far as weight and size being an issue, they definately are, but I personally raced a guy in an IROC Craparo through some turns one time with a lifted F150 and wiped his sorry butt, comes down to the driver a lot too. The guy in the IROC never would talk to me again.
Set up the chassis right for the powerplant you want and go get busy and whip some butt.

I've done this once or twice with different cars, I plan on tuning the car to me and the engine. Now that I know what I'm going to do I think I'm online to start on a proven builds section

Remember to make the straightest line of of two turns. You know what I mean by that right? I'm sure you do...

Learned to drive fast on that stretch, back when I street raced I was the quickest through the place, nobody not even the ricers could keep up. I went out and cruised it in my friends 94 formula firebird today, it's all down hill pretty much only part that's gonna be tricky is the 3 turns of death

What are you, freakin' retarded!!? Heavier cars do tend to handle better than light cars. How much road racing have you done? I've not done alot, but I've done enough to know.

DanH, why are you trying to pick a fight with Doug???? This forum is about intelligent discussion, and if you can't do that, just go over to YB, they like petty fights over there.
