Tasca "Street Boss" vs "Silver Bullet" GTX
Who would have won?
Both cars were considered street cars not all out race cars and both were to my nollage,"undefeated".The Tasca "Street Boss" raced everything from street cars to front engine dragsters with regular street tires and was a full weight Boss Mustang with a Boss headed 494ci CanAm engine. The "Silver Bullet" GTX was given the lightweight treatment with one of them being "swiss cheesing" the frame (Dream Car Garage) with 487ci Hemi.

I don't know much about that Boss but, I know a whole lot about the ORIGINAL "Silver Bullit" GTX owned by Jimmy Addison. It was a "driver" and was used everyday.
This car in the article is a remade car and NOT with the ORIGINAL underpinnings.
That car had 10 inch Cheater slicks of the day, (1968), and had two lines of tread to make them street legal. (Nothing like today's rubber).
That car also had only a 3.91/1 rear gear and FOUR mufflers and Jimmy used it as a parts chasing car in normal life for the service station where he worked on Square Lake Rd. & Woodward.
I can tell you first hand, (cause I was there), that car outran a legimate Pro Stock Camaro on the street in 1970 when that race car was forced to run with mufflers.
The automatic transmission in that car was the basis for the transmission used in the Original "Motown Missle", (Challenger), Pro/Stocker; (the first and only competitive Pro Stock car with an automatic transmission).
That GTX was NEVER run at the drag strip in those days using anything but, street legal trim and those times are "stop watch" guesses as Jimmy, (and the people who helped him at that time), never let the real times be known. He only went as fast as he had to go to win.
THAT original car was disassembled over 30 years ago and the remake became a reality 15 years ago. The car looks the same but, what is under the skin is far from the original.
The Boss probably shares the same kind of history.
The "Charger" in SoCal owned by "Big Willie" was in the same kind of mold.

I'm curious ...
Does anyone on here realize just how fast 10.50 was in 1970...? ESPECIALLY in full street legal trim, (including the sound level), with the tires available at that time.
AA/Fuel Dragsters had just broken into the 6's.

I know I do Randy. I was running 11.50's with my SS/H Mustang in 1973. I thought that was fast!

I was defiently not there to witness the early "glory days" but hearing about them and reading about them is just as great. Thanks for sharing the story on when you witnessed The Silver Bullet Randy. It must have been a Beast when cruising the streets.rmcomprandy wrote:I'm curious ...

It got me thinking "What if ?" these two cars had met up at the track and since Mr. Bob Tasca would wager a $1000 if Jimmy Addison would have taken the bet. Most defiently one of these cars would have 1 loss in the books.Which one? Only the drag strip gods would know.
What were the Pro Stock times of the early days?

Re: Tasca "Street Boss" vs "Silver Bullet" GTX
The Pro Stock times in 1970 were around 9.90 ET.
I witnessed that car "street racing" MANY times. Wanger"s black Firebird, Manarino's Camaro, several big block Chevelle's, a Ford "Thunderbolt" was a classic 2 out of three which never got to the third race, even a "Cammer" Maverick, lot's of actual race cars with mufflers and a whole lot more.
Like I said, Jimmy only went as fast as he NEEDED to go in order to win; never by more than a car length or so.
It really wasn't a BEAST unless it was at Wide Open Throttle ... if it went by you on the street, you wouldn't even guess it was near that fast. The clutch fan made more noise than the exhaust when simply driving.
It was SOooooo inconspicuous and even unnoticeable at times when other meaner LOOKING cars were there.
Now that I've read the article, this perticular BOSS was NEVER an older "Street Race" car but, a newer prepared facimilie with modern day hardware.
I'd take TODAY'S street tires over 1970 Cheater Slicks every time.
