gear swap
Hey guys reading this post has made me think about my own combination. Would a gear swap hurt or improve my over all ET. I have 3400# 64 fairlane 30 inch tall tire 4.56 gear C6 4500rpm converter 60 foot is 1.38 and 1/4 mile at 135 9.99 sec at 7100 rpm. If I changed the rear gear to a 4.30 or 4.11 do you think my 60 foot would improve. Aaron

Re: gear swap
i wouldnt say it would change 60'but the mph could pick up.i only run 1/8mile and went from 4.86 to 4.30 last year and lost a little 60' but picked up mph and ran same et.it's a give and take kinda thing when you have a combo pritty close but a lot depends on how your converter takes it.

Re: gear swap
Personally I believe that you can take pretty much any of the dream wheel projected rear gear numbers and back up at least two ratios. Especially on an automatic car. You wont give up much and your engine will last a lot longer going through the traps 4-500 rpm less than the supposedly ideal gears. If you are running comp or pro stock or some such all out every thousandth counts then maybe but that is only for the select few.
