Ranger wieght
My truck is alittle on the heavy side to me 2880 with me in it and don't have the driver's doors on it yet.I figure taking out the windshield should be what all the lexan will wiegh. The front wheels and radial tire is 47# each, that what they are at work when we have to ship them so with the alum wheels and tire I figure I might loss 30# with the alum. The 2 doors I figure will be about 75# and what ever the shocks and springs are.So right now the truck the way it sit is 2730# it looking more like 3000#with me it after it is finished I shooting for 2700 max when it was finished but that is shot now. What you think that was with 4gal. of gas in.

Re: Ranger wieght
Your current weight (2800-3000) is probably somewhere in the "average" range considering the build.
Even though you did remove/cut some weight from the truck, there probably was a given amount more you could have removed from the cab (removing some inner body structure vs removing all the inner body structure). And some given amount of weight was added back in the truck (cage & stuff, big motor vs V6).
And even though at this point it technically is pretty much considered a "full chassis" deal (body's only job is to "push wind"), it does use the heavier factory frame vs a lighter frame made of tubing. And while the gutted doors/front end/bed are lighter than they were from the factory, there still not as light as fiberglass parts/panels would be.
But at this point I wouldn't worry too much about finished race weight, instead get in some track testing and find out where the combo is at with it's current weight. Then at that point take another look at more weight reduction if you feel it's necessary.

Re: Ranger wieght
I know they are heavy little trucks this one was fully loaded ex cab .I gutted it but the front end is the heaviest part I might later on put a strut front end in it.But right now I will have to live with it. As soon as I am finished with so I can run it it will be time to start some remolding and the honey do list lol.

Dave I am with you on this part I was just looking for it to be a little lighter in the end .The only other thing on the cab I could have cut would have been under the windshield area alittle more the rest is gone.I could have have save some on the dash if I had went with 15/16" x 15/16" alum. tube on the dash instead of 3/4" x 3/4" steel tubibg and bed frame 1"x1" steel tubinng and used 1 3/16" x 1 3/16" t5 alum tubing.Going to bring some scales from work home tomorrow to see what the rear is verses the front I think I will be one the heavy side on the front.

Jim man you put that thing on quite a diet. My Ranger tips the scales at 5500 IIRC.

Wow, very cool build. When I made my stupid comment on how heavy Rangers are I didn't realize you had built a drag truck. Now I know why you are so bummed about the weight. Very nice truck, bet it would be a blast to drive.

Re: Ranger wieght
Tim I got a friend at work has a 2000 ranger just like mine was, he called me today and said his weighed 4340 lbs.I wieghed the drive door tonight just as it came off the truck and mine had electric windows, door locks everything the door weighed 75 lbs after I finished cut it and gutting it 35 lbs. The small door is 30lb I already had it gutted so both doors with alum door panel and lexan should be 75 lbs total. The small doors weighed about what the big doors did they was dubble walled and had some heavy crash bars in them.
