Kind of an inherent problem with the IH block. When they start putting that much bore/stroke in them, then lighten the block in other areas they are prone to break above the mains. The turbos look good though.

Good Gawd!! I don't believe I've ever seen one come so completely un-manufactured before.

What I want to know is why the very initial explosion is green. Doesn't nitrometh burn green or am I thinking of another fuel?

That isn't a Cummins in that CaseIH, it's a DT466 IH engine just like the one in the OP.

Nice... It's the price of making a few thousand hp out of an engine that was designed to make 300-400 hp !!! But the do hold together for awhile.

I looked at this link, and none of those engines are Cummins either.

Here is a Cummins for you from the same engine builder, only here is the bottom end the weak part.
second part of the video. I've seen them all live at the events.

Re: Now this HOW you blow them up
I'm guessing the Cummins was in the Ford? That thing spit the crank out in quite a few pieces. When it's in slow motion, you can see a whole throw going out the right side, then a couple more throws a little later. I know the diesel truck pullers love the 5.9L Cummins, but I ddin't think it was making enough power to be competitive in the tractor classes. I don't know much about the 8.3L, but no one is using one around here yet, but no one wants to agree on why it isn't being tested. My guess is no one wants to mess with somethng that isn't proven.

Re: Now this HOW you blow them up
Yes the Cummins is in the Ford. Think that over here in Europe about 4 or 5 tractors are using the 8.3 Cummins. The tractor in the video was using the OEM crankshaft with an aluminum main girdle. I know a team over here in the Netherlands that is already running a custom billet crankshaft in such an engine that is holding up better. But I think they also have a better girdle and billet main caps.schmitty wrote: I'm guessing the Cummins was in the Ford? That thing spit the crank out in quite a few pieces.
