the 552 carnage pictures i promised
dyno time plus 25 passes and she is headed for the scrap yard this was a d1te block lots of evidence of cap walk.i think the parting line or how the block was cast was the biggest problem.

Wow , thats jaw dropping along with a few other choice words I'm in the middle of having an engine done and shyt like that really scares me . I feel very sorry for you, let us know if you are able to determine root cause.

I'm trying to figure this one out. Notice how saddles 1, 3, and 5 are still in tact. And those are the crank's main support, maybe the rods were not balanced before balancing? Just trying to figure out this mystery.
Another thing, saddles 2 and 4 both broke in the same dang place.

Really hate that for you. I've never seen the webbing busted out of a 460 before.

I'm curious as to what crank you were using? What timing and fuel you were using Larry? looks like nothing was salvagable. I've tore some stuff up bad in my life ,but that takes the prize!! I feel for ya brother

115 tork + red locktite on the studs and nuts.it had .0028/.0029 clearance on the mains and .0025/.0027 on the rods.

Re: the 552 carnage pictures i promised
I've seen a couple of blocks crack from the main bolt hole to the cam tunnel at #2........I'm told it happens on #4 too. I suspect that's what happened first.

the crank kit was a 4340 forged internally balanced from the factory and yes it ill haunt me that i didnt have it rechecked. the timeing was 28.5* as it was on the dyno,i never touched it.the fuel was 112 sunoco that advertised good on 18:1 race motor,i only had 13.5/13.7 cr.i pulled the plugs after the first run they looked good and didnt have any detonation.i even had a friend look at them he said they were good but a little rich, cool so i was set to go.

I think this validates the "can I get by using a stock block for my 800 plus hp build?"........
And I'm not picking on Larry, its just that now we have all the stuff to make bigger power so easily the obvious gets overlooked.
Can it be done?.......sure............ How long will it live?........... who knows.
Sorry for your loss Larry, been there done that a few times myself.
