Need direction or advice on the build...
I'm starting a new build this coming weekend. It's a tin can '82 Notchback. My goal is 11 flat 1/4mi with no power adders. I can get E-85 all day long and I'd like to take advantage of it if possible. I'm on somewhat of a budget but I can spring for the right parts if needed. I already have a stock 460 with D3VE-A2A heads that needs rebuilt. Here's what I have thinking about and I could be way off base but here goes:
-stock crank
-truck rods with ARP's
-hyper-crack-tic pistons and moly rings 12-ish to 1 comp.
-ported dove's?
-261/268 @.050 .667/.657 solid cam
-swap pan
-swap mounts
-stealth intake
-850 dp Holley
-Hooker swap headers
-TCI streetfighter and 3000 stall
-4.10 gears and 28" DOT's
-about 3000lb race weight
This is a rough idea so all input is welcome. I want a solid plan before I dig in, it gives me something to look foward to.

Victor and a 1050 is a better choice IMO you shouldn't have any problem running 11s with what you've described
plus invest in a set of hbeam rods and some better pistons.

Decent ported DOVE's and a Victor with a dommie and you will probably get closer to the 10's than 11's. Definately do the better rods and forged pistons. Relatively cheap upgrades and worth the peace of mind.

Looks pretty good, yes if the money is there I'd get h beams and a forged piston be it a sealed power or the like.
I did run 10.70's in the head with a 466, sp flat top, stock rods, ported Doves, 10-1 comp, T2 intake, 1050 alky carb. This was at 3300#'s

I ran 11.20 @ 119mph with a 466 in a 3300 pound mustang. It had Srp flat top pistons about 11.7 to 1 compression, truck rods, home ported Dove heads with stock valves, lunati solid cam(237/247 deg. @ .050), stealth intake, tci super streetfighter(3600-3800rpm), 3.73 gear, 28" slick, C6 trans, super comp headers. Then I put a bigger solid cam(294 comp cam) and ran 10.8 @ 123mph, but the stock conecting rods didn't like 6700Rpm with larger cam.

Wow that pretty close to what I had in mind. So pistons will definately be on the list then.501ranger wrote:I ran 11.20 @ 119mph with a 466 in a 3300 pound mustang. Do the hbeams too, it's only a couple more $$$ than reconing and adding bolts to you truck rods......

Re: Need direction or advice on the build...
I would sugest a looser convertor and smaller cam. The 294 solid cam I had for awhile needed a looser converter. Even though the bigger cam made my mustang faster it lost about 0.06 in the sixty foot, since the super streetfighter was to tight for the bigger cam.
