Need direction...... Again 528 build
So thanks to Andy brown hooking me up with a great deal on a crank I'm now finally off in the right direction with my bottom end BUT I'm still stuck on my cam and top half
I'm trying to push my little 73 mustang down into the 10.5-10.8 range with a good C-6 and 3.73 gears and still be able to hit the cruise in on weekends and car shows.
What I've got going on so far is a scat 4.3 crank, ported C9 heads, fully machined and preped C9 block with oil mods. .060 over. A set of KB icon forged pistons with standard valve placement and 39 cc dish, roller lifters, timing sets.
I'm not afraid to swap out the heads and pistons for something else. I'm just in need of direction again

Do the P-51's come bare with valve job and guides installed? I have a good solid roller that If I managed to get up to 11:1 comp on pump gas would work great

My thoughts as well. With the dish on those pistons and the C9's you're compression is going to be down a bit and leave a bunch of hp on the table... not to mention the power potential of either of those 2 head choices and the price of the SCJ's for what you get. The ported C9's may flow well but not like either of those. I'd think you'd be further ahead to ebay the pistons and heads right quick and do as described. Then you'd be definately making the power numbers to get that '73 to the ET you're after.

I think you be money ahead putting together what you have and spending some money and time on the Chassis / suspension, shocks, springs, traction devices and tires / wheels before you chase more power.
Or even a Correct Custom Cam thats for the application will be money better spent.........
a Stock leaf spring 73' coupe is going to need all the help it can get going down the track with a 528" BBF even with small heads and carb.........
Bigger heads , Intakes and Dominators can go on later when you get everything going strait and max out what you have.

Re: Need direction...... Again 528 build
Alright so I'm convinced, I'll shelf the iorn heads and save them for a milder project
I can find new pistons in the about 500 dollar range, probes so I'll be ok there. What compression should I be looking for? Would 11:1 be to much with either head?
I still have a set of caltracs for this car from ages ago, never installed, as for the wheels department I'm a total loss on what's good and what's not. Going to go ahead and upgrade my stock 3rd member to a strange case. I've got adjustable QA1 shocks on all four corners. Haven't swapped the front springs yet as I want to have the motor set in the car before I start picking at that. The car WILL get a good cage before I even start it up

Re: Need direction...... Again 528 build
For the money spent the complete P51 heads from Lem are hard to beat. I'm running a set out of the box on my 514. They come "ported as cast" so they'll flow more than a SCJ out of the box. I'm running a flat top and figure the CR to be ~13:1.

Re: Need direction...... Again 528 build
I havent ruled out the P-51 yet but i do like the idea of having the smaller cross section of the scj's for better bottom and midrange torque production on a smaller motor such as mine
