Piston Direction Empty Piston Direction

Hey everyone while disassembling my Engine i noticed that the Speedpro TRW Pistons have a little cutout and im not sure what its about. Is it a assembly Direction?

Normally that would go toward the front of the engine.

Unless the builder wanted to have the piston pins "reverse" offset intentionally.
