351 Boss build question.
If you was going to build a supercharged 9.5 deck would you use the new Boss 351 iron block or go aluminum?
Kaase C400 cylinder heads?
Would you think this type of engine would have enough trq move a 4000lb race truck?
Would there be any money savings compared to a simular set-up in a BBF?

Re: 351 Boss build question.
lb ft per dollar still better deal with bbf WAY BETTER
EXAMPLE
$3000 521ci short block x 1.2 lb ft per cube = 625 /tq
$3000 - $6000 408ci short block x 1.2 lb ft per cube = 489 /tq
heads, valve train, intake, carb all about same money on either build
EXAMPLE
$3000 521ci short block x 1.2 lb ft per cube = 625 /tq
$3000 - $6000 408ci short block x 1.2 lb ft per cube = 489 /tq

BBF and the SBF , cost would be near the same , the old rule comes into play .

why are those the only block choices? Neither would be my first pick. you could use much less head if you wanted than those.
If this is just for fun and you don't have to fit any rules I would stick with the BBF stuff. As far as enough torque to move that truck, that is not a problem with either. You just need to decide how much money you want to spend, how fast you want to go, and who you want to do the build.
when you say supercharged which type of compressor do you plan on running?

My buddy did a 408 cleveland this year using the 4v heads that were too big in the old days. With the extra cubes, tunnel ram, mild clean up of the heads it made 625 hspr on pump gas.

Re: 351 Boss build question.
I have had one phone call from a guy in Canada and about the short block I have for sale. He was suppose to send me a shipping address so I could give him a price with shipping, but I have yet to see anything. If I don't get any other serious bites i'll pull the ad.
After thinking about it I might as well finish building it and not worry about what it will or won't handle.

Re: 351 Boss build question.
Josh stick with your BBF, when the time comes to run the truck and you do your home work right with the big block, your biggest problem for the next year is going to be the chassis.
Keep the blinders on, you have a good start on the right path. When you change directions it's costing you big bucks because you can never hardly get your money back on what you already have.
Get the right heads and cam in your 521 and you will have your hands full, you need need to crawl before you walk or run.
Stick to the plan................. You'll be money ahead.

Re: 351 Boss build question.
Josh,
Are we going to have to change the location of the Winter Tech Seminar to your house? We can all come up there and get it started enough to where you can't turn back!!!
I'd stick with the BBF. You'll need the torque to get that beast rolling. Do the engine this year and slowly turn the wick up on it. You'll spend a good part of the year sorting out the chassis while you increase the power....
Keep your shortblock, throw some TFS heads on there and run with it. You don't need anything fancy to good power with it. You'll make 700HP by accident with that combo!!!

We can rent out the Casino for the tech seminar!
Engine wise all I lack is heads, lifters, camshaft, carburator, bronze gear, distrubutor and headers.
Converter, driveshaft, shifter
35spline axles, spool, gears, case
Thats all I lack besides chassis.

Re: 351 Boss build question.
Not sure what you want for a dizzy or cam, but I've got my old Duraspark that is locked with a bronze gear on it, and my old vac cam with 240*/240* .750 lift and they can be yours for a very reasonable price.

Re: 351 Boss build question.
I have a relatively new recurved duraspark, it's just a little sloppy with the timming. Also have 3 new camshafts, 1-7/8 headers, 850dp. If it boils down to it I could have the engine running with just a set of heads. Thats why I decide to start focusing on the truck and saving for the cylinder heads.
