vacuume relief valve
i had an issue with my ex514 intake swap i just did and thought i'd share.the intake has a moroso adj vacuume valve screwed in it,as i bought it used.i have a vacuume pump, which i know will pull 7-8 lbs.it's electric deal from a gm product and i've used it with a vented cap on the v/c until now with no problems.with this thing in the intake i decided to cap the v/c and use it instead.first pass with it and the new alky setup and i got a nice oil bath under the hood i dont mean a little spray,i mean spray everywhere and intake standing full of oil.i'd say the pump aint up for the job but i would'nt have thought it would put that much oil out even if the pump was off! and it could have been i just capped it and cleaned all the oil up then uncapped the v/c again. so my question is if i had a "good"or a "real" vacuume pump how would you know to set it up so this dont happen? put it in the v/c? moroso sell's them for either place in the motor so?opinions?

Re: vacuume relief valve
THAT VALVE should never be in the intake,i have seen this alot, we put them in the front of the pass side hand valve cover, never a problem there.

Re: vacuume relief valve
That pump aint really up to the task, but again that seems like a lot of blowby............ And as stated put the relief close to the suction hose as possible or even in line or at the pump itself.
Sounds like with the system capped the pump has just enough vacuum to unseat the ball in the relief and allow oil to get slung up through it. With the crankcase vented the ball stays seated as the vacuum is at or near zero.
If you want to run the setup like it is just cap the crankcase and the relief, those pumps do not pull enough to need a relief valve.

Re: vacuume relief valve
I'll post a link to a cheap but industrial vac relief valve. I ran my relief valve and a small vacuum " T " in the valley pan near the rear of the block. The vacuum T was for the vacuum gauge. The suction was placed between the rocker arms for seperate cylinders so that it was not directly over top of any given rocker arm so not to starve it to death. Never had any problems or blow-by so to speak. No dealings with an electric deal, but seems to me it will only spin so fast no matter what you do with it. It may actually reach a point of restriction forcing the blow-by so to speak.
