Re: Best distributor for Evans A460 TR intake adapted to C460 heads?
Brian,
I used to use the Blue Streak cap and rotor,(1957-73) which was the high performance stuff with copper terminals made by Standard Ignition. However, my local Adavnce Auto Parts store quit carrying Blue Streak. So now I just buy the Summit brand cap & rotor set , which is blue in color and has the copper terminals that I prefer. Then I just use the old socket style blue spark plug wire kit from Ford Racing (Lem).
It always helps to grind some of the bottom front corner off of the TFS tunnel ram plenum, it's real thick anyway, but I grind it off at about a 30* angle in order to make some room to R&R the cap.
Hope this helps,
Charlie

Re: Best distributor for Evans A460 TR intake adapted to C460 heads?
Guys,
With the A-460 manifold to C-460 head adapters, you can use the factory 429-460 distributor which measures 3 and 9/16" fron the cap surface to block mounting surface. I aways take 2 or 3 junkyard distributors and use the best parts I find to build one. I also replace the magnetic pick-up and the star wheel with new Borg-Warner parts. In fact they also sell the sintered bronze bushings for the dist. housing in Borg-Warner catalog. I like the Motorcraft housings better than the Autolite housings. Because the manifold is setting up higher, you can use the old style small cap (1957-1973) on your distributor.
With the TFS A-460 tunnel ram on A-460 heads, they designed it thinking everybody would use an MSD crank trigger and low profile MSD distributor. However, if you want to run a factory 429-460 Ford distributor you can, by using one of my alum. billet cap adapters and the Mallory #221 crap cap. Again it helps to do some grinding on the underneath side and front bottom corner of the plenum of the manifold for cap clearance.
MSD uses the same guts as the factory Ford stuff, meaning the magnetic pick-up and the star wheel, so of course we can just use the Ford Motorcraft distributor to trigger the MSD box/ignition. The black wire with a purple tracer coming out of the distributor connects to the green wire in the MSD harness connector, NOT the purple wire.
Hope this helps,
Uncle Charlie
