Dove-c Heads
What is the max rpms on stock ford valves in the dove heads mine have factory intake valves and aftermarket ss exhaust valves.I am turn it 6000 on top end just wondering if I need to spend the extra on after market valves or save for new scj heads aluminum heads.I have heard they will be fine turning 6000 rpms and heard I need to change them.My cam is a xe274h comp lift is .563 intake .565 exhaust.Planning on going bigger with the engine next winter just wondering if I need to spend the extra an new valves.I am not going to a bigger valves and spend that much on these heads to run maybe 40 to 50 passes on when I will be changing them on the next build.

with your current cam and parts at 6000 as long as everything is right and in good condition the valves should last a long time. but an upgrade to better valves is a good idea, keep inmind thestock stuff is 40+ years old.

Re: Dove-c Heads
I am going to go head and put new intake valves as I said I already have the ss exhaust valves.Going to change them for good insurance so maybe I want drop one and screw up what I have now might put it in my 69F100,and build another one for the Ranger next winter.Who on here sale a good aftermarket 2.08 valve for dove-c heads .I called Lem but he was on a business call and I talked with Shawn he said they didn't have anything in that size for the dove-c heads only 2.25 and up.He told me to ask around on here that some of the heads guys might could help me out on them.

Re: Dove-c Heads
The peace of mind would be enough for me to do it,broke valves suck:
I figured we got off easy, wrecked two combustion chambers and a cpl of piston tops, had to pull the broken head of the valve out of the intake bowl because it got pounded in there sideways and it got past the seat, was a mess, more than just grabbing it with something and pulling, was a project. We have a friend that's good with aluminum heads and fixxed the combustion chambers and we were back in business(I ended up pretty much changing the entire combo while we were there re-used the head castings, block and crank, that's it.) but what a pita, happened to the engine in the background, not a ford but nothing crazy, moderate sft not spinning it past 6500, mid 10s on pump gas on the motor @ 3200lbs. Good valves appropriate for the task at hand is cheap insurance imo.

More carnage,h-beams are incredibly strong, nothing in the shortblock(including the block) survived what started as a valvetrain failure:

Re: Dove-c Heads
I have dropped a valve in my 351c took out the whole cyclinder and lifter holes, the head was repairable but not much left to this piston and rod the crank checked out fine it was a forged crank.
After Dave reminded me about 40+ year old stuff but I did turned the 351c 7000 -7500 rpm

Re: Dove-c Heads
That's awesome....quality breakage. I have a mild (compared to the monsters that some of the members here have) 466 in my gt with ported doves and the c-460 cam,11-1, I used manley valves in mine part# 11874-8,11875-8. That rod survived amazingly intact lol kinda.
This happened around 135mph, something stopped that wasn't supposed to stop and everything broke, think the carbs were saved but thats about it.
Wasn't a ford so I didn't post a pic of what was left of the car(68 baracuda),allready posted a non-ford engine pic and don't want to be crucified lol. I read alot here but don't post much.
