Re: New 604" bullet for the truck
Talked to Randy the other day, and he was over at Adney's polishing the crank. Short block has been mocked up and should be together real soon. Heads are complete and are sporting a new set of Ti valves on the intake side. Can't wait to hear this thing make some noise in a few weeks. Dyno session is set up and hope to make that dyno scream for mercy when this thing loads it up.

Well, it will be on the dyno at Mike's the week just before the bash. The compression's to low, the cam's to big and there isn't enough induction but, we'll see what we can make it do.

I knew we should have stayed with the 11/16 race cam instead of going with the big 3/4 race cam. Well I still think we should get close to 375HP out of it none the less.

Re: New 604" bullet for the truck
Well, I'm back home after a fun week in KY. We had a small set back with the engine. A lifter stuck and caused a valve to get damaged. Luckily it was at a low rpm and damage was contained to a few small parts. The valves in this engine are custom made name brand top of the line stuff, and it will be a couple weeks till we get a new one. I'm just glad this didn't happen while on a full throttle pull, it may have been a lot worse. It's a race engine and parts fail, it's that simple. We decided to up the C/R while we had this chance, and I am now going to raise my goal for hp and tq to be above 600/600 now.

Re: New 604" bullet for the truck
While we had the head off, Dave F. wanted to flow test them, and they were impressive to say the least. I have the sheets from SVRE and we compared them with what we have now. I believe these heads had a steep valve angle on them when SVRE flowed them originally, and there are gains in flow, at the cost of reduced valve life. I was after durability with this engine, and a *45 valve angle was used instead. These particular heads topped out at 522cfm on AMP's flow bench.

Well, it got done this past week and Schmitty says he's happy with it; (I hope that's not just cordiality).
My main goal is for him to be happy AFTER a race.

Re: New 604" bullet for the truck
Ok guys, round two in KY went down without a hitch this time. We made 1030hp and 845tq. The average hp and tq on the pulls was quite good IMHO and will definately move the ole gray truck along quite well. This engine was not intended to set any new power benchmarks, but instead live a long happy life in my truck, and I have no doubt that it will.
Lem, Uncle Charlie, and Blake were there to lend a hand and it was a bona fide riot hanging out with these guys. For those of you who have never met these guys in person, there is a reason they are the ones who set the benchmarks. They really share info, and learn from each others accomplishments.
I have a lot of chassis to sort out, and when I do, this truck will be flying.
Randy, after seeing that red truck with the D3 heads kicking butt, and I've got more cubes and C's , I better hang on tight.

Can't say anything about your "looks" or the "gout" Blake,,,,but in the background of that last picture, you'll see one very stout TFS A-460 head setting on the flow bench. I appreciate your helping with the flow testing. Thanks.

I might have overheard you telling the numbers on them, and I must say they were very good stuff indeed. Now just keep Lem from putting his pushrod in the ports.

Re: New 604" bullet for the truck
What I especially like about that engine is that it is SOoooo unassuming to any Chevy or Mopar guys who look at it. No crank trigger, no belt drive, no kicked-out aluminum fabricated oil pan, no vacuum pump; just "bare bones" from an outside look.
