Powerglide
How much Hp will a glide handle, with the stock case, gears, and shaft. Behind a BBF in a 4000-5000lb 4x4? What would need to be replaced to hold 750 plus a 300 shot?

100% true, I talked to Coan a couple years ago about doing a glide set up in the big bronco, they told me that the weight was the biggest problem for a glide in that case. You could do a glide setup, but you are going to spend some $$ to get it to hold up. I'd really look into doing a c4 or c6 instead. Bullet proof and reliable.

Re: Powerglide
We were looking at the glide for the little bit of weight savings plus better efficiency.

Re: Powerglide
Id use a C6 and Get the weight down on the Truck, if the rules will allow it.

Re: Powerglide
And if you are determined for 2 gears only, gut the one gear out and set the axle ratio's accordingly. My friend lost 3rd gear in his truck twice and I told him to just put a high gear in the rear so its like a glide. Then he don't have to worry about 3rd gear any more.dfree383 wrote:Id use a C6 and Get the weight down on the Truck, if the rules will allow it.

That is true, we run the bronco in only 1st and 2nd, high range, 300ft 5.14 gear front and rear. I like the part about having to only shift once too.

Re: Powerglide
I'd bet money the setup I have will live at that weight and power level...............and the glide is flat more efficient than a 3 speed of any brand. The case is plenty strong as long as its not mounted in such a way that any external forces are exerted on the case.
I would not even consider a C4 for that application, a C6 will get it done if that is the route you intend to go.
Do not skimp on converter whatever you decide to use.

Re: Powerglide
My buddy has been putting 1200hp (chevy 632 big chief engine) through a stock case glide for 3 years now in his 4000# mud truck. He has had issues but not with the case. Last season It ran without any issues at all.

Re: Powerglide
The C6 will be the most cost effective IMO.
But I also think you choice should be based on your total package........ What Motor? What Gearing? Tire Size? how long of pit? is it race only or do you drive it some?
Total weigh needs to be nailed down a little closer than a 1000# window too......... is it 4000 or 5000#?

Re: Powerglide
Two different trucks, still early in the stages. One SCJ headed 557, one P51 headed 53x.
Both hulled out rangers.
Planning to run the 37 and 44 class with tire swap.
Planning to hold 75+ mph tire speed with the big tires.
200'
Race only
Should make 4000 maybe lighter.

some of the small Rangers are getting well below 4000#...... important to know... PG may be a good choice...... Keep going on the descriptions...

Re: Powerglide
stock 1.82 or 1.76? Go with the glide for sure. stock case will handle it. A divorced t-case makes it real easy to pull motor and trans also.

Re: Powerglide
So would anyone venture to throw out a percentage of effective power gain on switching from a C6 to a glide? Everybody always says the C6 eats power, and acts like a glide will basically spin itself....so, to you guys who have ran both set-ups, is there really that much difference?
I did a little searching and it looks like switching from a C6/205 combo to a Glide/241 combo only saves about 60-80 pounds....Not sure that small of a weight gain is worth it!?
In my mind, this starts to be a question of, "Do I switch to the glide just because its lighter? or because its that much more efficient?"

Re: Powerglide
IMO A Rollerized C6 isn't all that innefficient considering the strength of the unit.
In alot of applications I'd rather have something that requires little maintence and is rugged as hell rather than gain a percent or two in efficiency.
