89 Bronco 460/ZF swap

Machine shop is boring .030, and we are using silv-o-lite pistons, brass freeze plugs, and they are putting in arp rod bolts. Waiting now while they balance everything

Picked up the engine last night, the wife helped me get the block out of the jeep, (she loves that)




They cleaned up the valve covers



Pistons installed on the rods, rods resized and arp bolts in them



Crank looks shiny, .010-.010




Block all clean, Brass plugs, line bore checked out, .030 bore

top side





Heads back with comp cams springs, keepers, locks, and teflon seals

Ordered more bolts to put this thing together

Tag team torque wrenching. My youngest sister would love to come help me assemble engines. She knows more about engines than most guys ever will, and it must have been a good thing, she's a Physicians Assistant now, and puts people back together. Hopefully without a torque wrench though.

Whats funny is my daughter was the one that always came out to watch oil changes instead of my son

Nice build man. Got a 1990 Bronco but it has a 300/5speed in it. Was thinking about doing a 7.3L swap but lol...naw.

Test fitting the edelbrock waterpump and arp bolts

Tapped out the dipstick hole in the front cover that I will not be using,

Oilpump shaft is a hd unit from arp



Melling hv pump and the pickup that came with the FMS oilpan set. I used arp bolts on this too



Oilpan on with the factory stiffners and arp 12point bolts

Rocker arms and new pushrods




Set the intake on so I can measure bolt lengths..going all arp 12 point...what a pain.



Checking the upper intake, the egr, iac, water neck and the alt bracket..



3G fits right on, think I'll clean up the bracket and remove the air pump



Ordered a bunch of fasteners...I need to mock up the sag swap next

Will a 3" single exhaust be enough for this? I still have to pass emissions testing.

I worked on my alt bracket a little, cleaned it up where the air pump used to go, I'll get it sandblasted before I put it on








Other than removing the air pump, the 3G fits right on with no mods at all.

What is the alt bracket originally from? Are they hard to find?

It was from the '91 f250 donor, I dont think they are hard to find, I just wanted to take the air pump mounts off so it looks cleaner and dosent obstruct the timing marks as much

The single 3" exhaust will probably be alright considering this is a low rpm, driver deal. More would of course be better, but if you can't pass the emissions test what good would it do.

And its out, I don't need hoses or anything because I had a Saginaw swap on my 351



Got the wife/helper to carry it out



And it's home
