Going to start a 460 build for my Bronco
Hey every one! I am going to start to rebuild me a 460 to put into my 78 Bronco. I am looking for any and all ideas for this build.
It will be a D1VE block with slightly worked over D3VE heads and stock rotating assembly. I Just want to put this together to get it in my truck. I plan on building a mild stroker motor once work picks back up maybe . This motor is just to get the swap done and to get the 408 outa my truck Then I can realy start to enjoy my Bronco...
Heres what I'm thinking so far...
D1VE block .030-.040 over
Worked D3VE heads
? flat top pistons
? Comp Cams x4270h Xtreme 4x4 cam 270/278 Dur. @ .050"-.554/.574 lift
Weiand Stealth Intake
L&L Fender well headers with 3" Exhaust going into Dynomax Ultra-Flo mufflers
Sound like a good build? What would you do differently?
Thanks!

I would call Maddog headers and get a decent set of his fenderwell headers in at least a 2" primary for when you decide to go to a larger cid engine. They will work good on this one too. No sense buying the exhaust twice. I had that cam in a 466 and it was a really nice grind, wish I could have enjoyed it longer, but it ate a lobe during the first week. I am not casting blame on Comp for the failure it was probably my fault with incorrect break in. Still a good cam in my opinion.

Yeah I was looking at the Mad Dog header too but wasn't too sure yet. What cam would you say to go with if you have had problems with the Comp Extreme cam. I put one in a chebby motor but didn't keep it long enough (I traded it for my 72 Formula LMAO!!) to find out if it lasted or not. I just have always ran Comp Cams in my other motors so I just thought...
Also who has the best/best priced fabricated valve covers out there?? I want a set but I don't want ones that are crappy and leak.

I have a FF XE274H-10 comp cam and lifter already broke in it has 3 1/8 mile passes on it.It makes great power and has alot of tq I built this engine to put in my 69 F100 but it never made it in the 69.I decided to build the Ranger and drag race the engine might have had 15 gallons of gas through it.I am pulling the engine to replace the pistons with flat tops and going to a solid lift cam and I will have this cam for sale.I will take $165 shipped or $150 + shipping for it and lifters, I will mark the lifter as where they go on the cam if you are interrested in it.
Here is the same cam I have.

Thanks for the offer! I will keep it in mind. And my local speed shop has the cam and lifters I picked out for $197.
Like I said I'm still not sure how this build will end up. I was realy hoping to find me a running 460 to slap into so I could just build me a stroker motor in the first place. But this 408 I put in is just nickle and dimming me to death and would rather not stick anymore money into it!! SO I gotta get a 460 together
