E85 conversion coming next week.
Ok guy's I bit the dust to have one of these built for my parks car. I really can't aford to run Race gas since it was just raised $1 per gallon and I have 2 car to play with (KIDS). It cost me $18 a gallon. So E85 @ $2.75 x 2 = 5.50 a gallon. thats a $12.50 a gallon savings. Plux it will make the car run cooler and more consistance. after a few outting I'll get a 2nd one for the new car and see how that goes.

Keep the updates coming. My stuff is weak compared to you, but I am thinking about the also changing. This is a street fuel deal mostly, but I hear you can still have some torque and cooling gains.

Let me know if you have any questions, this will be my thrid year running it. A Innovate LM2 meter
can help big time to get the tune right and make it consistant.

I'm running a 1050 (4500) as for metering block they are a custom deal. Quick Fuel has a ball parkish deal but this will be a complet custom carb. I'll try and keep everbody posted as best as possible.
Last I would love to have a LM2 but money very tight and I'll have to tune by seat of the pants, performance and Water temp

Re: E85 conversion coming next week.
I cant really see a gain by going to this. We just did my buddys 460sbc in his mustang. The cons I see are you cant let it set if you do it gums up the carb. If you spray with it it can clog up you spray bar again if you let it set. Plus e-85 burns 20-30% more (from what I read) to what gas does. If you buy it at the pump you almost have to buy the tester to make sure your getting a true mixture. It just seems to much trouble to me. My car runs off vp110 and is 6.50 a gallon here and e-85 is 3.00 a gallon. To me it easier and cheaper to switch to methanol. Burns 2 to1 to gas but is $125 for 55 gallons also. But thats just my 2 cents.

I'm purchasing my E85 from a local source who is a regular fuel, race fuel and E85 soruce called Hill petorleum (www.hillpet.com ). The sales manager is a e85 nut as he has a 1200hp big block chevelle with a pro-charger on it.. He say's unlike other petrolem dist they don't ever cut the e85 anything less than 88% year around. He said to come by any time and check it before buying it. Last My carb builder just called to inform me its done and I gave him this information as well and he said that he would make a last minute change before dyno-tuning. it and then draining it and drying it out to ship it Friday.
As far as the extra work involved. He said to top up the tank in between race's. After the seasons over to drain the tank(aluminum) and to drain the carb/squirters and pumps and spray it down with WD40 in the float area.
Yes it consumes 33% more fuel so what ! it's way cheaper, runs cooler and should be more consistance.
Last I bet you wont pay $6.50 a gallon for fuel this year. Noram said every fuel supplier has had some kind of rate hike.

Honestly for a full time drag deal it seems methanol would be a better deal.

So how much are you actually saving? E-85 here is over $3 a gallon and burns 33% more. Plus the cost of the conversion. To many people here have done the swap and they say that if the car sits for 2 weeks at a time the fuel turns into a sludge film and gums up the carb and n2o plate if you spray with it. Plus if it gets to cold e-85 will not start. You will have to prime it with gas. The old saying is if it sounds to good to be true it probably is. I have paid 6.50 for fuel for a year and a half. No rate hike.

Race gas prices usually dont raise in price at the same rate as regular unleaded.

Re: E85 conversion coming next week.
I have ran alky, gas and E85. I make about 300 to 350 passes a year, bracket racing in Super Pro finished 4th in the points last year @ Indy with a large field of diggers. Went to the Millon @ Muncie and in a 30K down to 6 cars via a perfect run can't bicht about E85.
The alky ran well and consistant but I went thru 9 barrels of fuel and alot of oil changes I think the Rupert Carb a little rich, I noticed my cost @ the end of the year was a 1/3rd higher than gas when it was around 4 a gallon. Went to E85 and cost was lower than gas but you got to tune it if you going to bracket race it.
I run all 1/8 mile and use little over 1/2 gal @ Indy long drive back to pits there with gas I would use little over 1/3 gal, alky 1 1/4 gal. I may try alky again (injection) sometime since I have alot more tuning tools now but I cant see why when the car is like a zerox machine.
I have the old engine with two years of passes on it sitting on the stand going to tear it down and take a look at it I will know more after that I was going to run it this year since I was in the final in the last race of the year, but decided not too and put my back up in and busy getting everything done for first points race. I may have my modified 950 Quick Fuel for sale if all works well with the new carb after testing. I know why mess with a zerox machine, certain condtions wasn't as cosistant as I wanted & I guess it is a quest of perfection. Must be a FORD thing

Re: E85 conversion coming next week.
I am getting ready to dyno in a few weeks, and part of the deal will be an E85 conversion. We just finished working with a customer on a 14.1 Compression Small block, ran it on VP Q16 and then converted to E85. Made within 5-6 HP, and is under $3.00 a gallon. Only wanted 25-26 degrees of timing, but who cares? Racing fuel is getting way out of hand for my budget. Good luck on your conversion.

Powerstrokeace how everthing turn out?
I tore down my old engine which I ran E85 on for over 650 passes and all looks real good very happy with it.
It is a very good possiblity I will have a 950 Quick fuel for sale if this new carb runs as good as it sounds
