Alternator Question Empty Alternator Question

Post  Tore March 24th 2011, 7:16 am

I installed an alternator in my car. All the wiring was in place and its also got a Painless Charging system relay.
I hooked the wire to the alt. and never tested it. I went in the house and came back out the next day and the alt. was warm. I have no idea why. I checked the wiring diagram for the relay and its wired correctly. The alt is a mini 1 wire alt. I never tested the alt to see if it was charging when it was running. I just unhooked it. Any ideas??

Thanks Tore

mike has a master switch on his mustang (4 post) his alt doesn't get hot. you have to put put 8gauge on the (on) side to alt on one of the post and the other gets battery cable if not mistaking.

The car came prewired as you can see an alt was there before. I have the schematic and traced all the wires and everything looks good. Otherwise to test things out I will run a wire outside the car to the post by the solenoid where the hot side comes and see if it gets warm that way.
