V belts vs. Serpentine
I know quite a few of you guys ditch the stock accessory setups, but given limited funds and a rather large engine bay which setup would be preferable? The reason I ask is because both of the builder 460 short blocks I have didn't come with ANY accessory brackets, or pulleys, or anything like that and need to find them either in the junkyard or perhaps someone here happens to have a set of brackets and pulleys taking up space in the back of their garage. The vehicle in question is a 73 Ranchero so I MUST have an alternator AND power steering and I would also like to have A/C if possible since I live in the middle of Arizona.

Either works fine for most applications.
Look for a late model Truck set-up, should be able to fine one in the JY.

Re: V belts vs. Serpentine
Do you know what year they started using the serpentine setup on the 460?

.
Are the serpentine systems any deeper than the v-belt systems? I won't have a lot of room to work with up front.

Vs. a Poly-Vee; the factory never made a true "serpentine" belt drive for a big block Ford.
Re: V belts vs. Serpentine
If I had a choice I would always go with the polyv.

Another option is to adapt the serpintine setup from a Mustang with a 5.0L. A few guys have done it by using an adapter plate to bolt the 5.0L brackets to the heads. Other problem is this setup will turn the waterpump backwards. Never was a reverse rotation pump for BBF, but seems if you open up the cavity around the impeller on a BBF pump it works fine. Main advantage of this setup is saves some room at front of engine and is more compact. Steve

There used to be a site called bigblockfox.com that had all this info. Not sure if it is still around or not.

Re: V belts vs. Serpentine
There has to be a way to keep the water pump standard rotation and make it a true serpentine system, with three accessories. It would take quite a few idlers but I think it could be done.
Something like this could work with quite a bit of fabrication. Any arrangement of the accessories would work.

Not sure how in depth you want to get but here's what I ended up doing. Had to order a few small items at this point, but real happy with it. Don't have a completed pic yet.
