Okay the electric choke on the edelbrock 650 has two spots for wires, one goes around to the back of the carb itself and where does the other one go? I've never been able to figure it out and I'd like to get it set up today because it should be hooked up and I'd like to have a working choke setup on it. This carburetor is on my 70 maverick with a 302, I'm trying to prep this car for my next race and as of tomorrow I start working till 5 so I'll be putting in a full work day 7am-5pm and I'd like to get it done asap.

The install manual on that one says "any switched 12v power source". (page 3)

I used to hook 'em to the 'stator' term on the alternator, but this one says no.

I used to hook 'em to the 'stator' term on the alternator, but this one says no.

THIS IS CORRECT, 1 to ground,the other to the stator,or anywhere that only has + power when engine is running

Before we hooked it up to the alternator and I don't remember what happened, I want to try again. I currently have it hooked up to the smaller terminal on the starter solenoid. How long (approximately) should it take before it opens up completely?

time depends on how long your car takes to "warm up". We never ran chokes when we ran carbs on the street so I can't help you much. With our efi we just tune the cold start out with a few clicks of a mouse.

Its just that I would like the fast idle to be there when cold because it seems to warm up better, but I want the choke to be open when I'm driving it. I will finnick with it some more.

OEM setups, like my '85 Mustang, had the 'lectric choke wired to the alternator. This would supply a diminished power to the choke coil, prolonging fast idle when cold. Driving would increase power to the coil, hence the choke pulling down earlier, with the thought that the motor warmed up quicker driving than at idle. At least that's the way I always understood it Smile

Going to a switched constant 12V source will heat the choke coil pretty quick...

I guess you should try either and decide what you prefer Wink

When I had it running I couldn't really see any movement that's why I was wondering how long it'd take. Well I'll look in the good ole Chilton and find the spot on the alternator again and try that.

It seems OEM chokes require less than 12 volts, while the aftermarket chokes (Holley, etc) require 12 volts. The back of the alternator at the stator is not 12v IIRC.
