Are any of you guys with F150's towing enclosed trailers? I have an 05 F150 with the 5.4. It tows my open trailer with ease but I have often wondered how it would do with a 24-28' enclosed. I'd like to have a larger truck but I have no desire to own a diesel or a large truck payment. I think the tow rating on my O5 was around 8600 lbs. My 3250 lb. car and tools would use up at least 4000 of that.

The old Cummins are simple and relitivly cheap to operate, I had a 93' and Loved the Engine !!! only problem with it was it was in a "Tuna Can" of a truck..... Dodge Trucks are absolutly junk.
My dad only drives Dodges because of the cummins. I can tell you they have come light years ahead since 1993. They are actually a pretty nice truck but not as nice as the superduty.

Got a 5.4 F150 with the 10k towing package, for all the more i tow its a better deal than a diesel.
What kind of mileage you getting from the 5.4 empty and towing?

truck that is big money + repairs that are big money + fuel that is big money = a gas powed H/D truck instead
If you own a shop repairs are no biggie, only thing ive done to repair a diesel in 5 yrs is replace a speedo sensor and a cam sensor and that was on diff trucks. AND if my guys cant fix it, I know ANDY can. its handy that he also builds race car chassis.
and my fuel is dirt cheap, you know the used motor oil and used tranny fluid we drain from customer's cars?
burns great in diesels after you filter the shit out of it.
You might call Andy and run those codes by him, he is who we default to when they cant figure out a diesel which isnt often.
Andy owns Pro Tree Race cars and Performance Diesel

when i had a 24 ft enclosed, myF150 pulled it just fine. I added a towin package to it though. air shocks, hitch, and the biggest thing was adding load levelers to the trailer.

I have a friend that tows w/05 5.4. He's got a foxbody and a 28' timberwolf enclosed. Seems too do fine. 8 mpg towing though. I'd rather buy the diesel fuel and get 13 towing. jmo

I've towed my 24' with a F150 before. That's just asking for trouble. It may pull it fine ,but if you ever get in a bad situation and need some heavy braking or extra stability...You'll wish you had a dually. I'll never tow without a F350 with dual wheels again. Safety means a whole lot more than anything else to me. Wind storms ,rainy roads ,and people pulling out in front of you . seems like something happens alot these days. I pull with my motorhome alot too, it's on a E350 chassis and does ok ,but wind really affects it. And without my load toad ,I won't pull with it again either.Main thing is watching everyone else anymore and keeping good tires on everything...

I'll tell ya this, it seems we have seen a lot more 7.3's come in and the customers are spendin money on um............after the 6.0/6.4 disaster and the out of control pricing of the 6.7 more and more are gettin the older trucks and fixin um up. Myself I have sold a bunch of 7.3 chips etc here in the last month or so. Just goes to show ya the 7.3 was a very reliable and affordable rig.................see lots with over 5,6 even 7k on the odometers.
