EGT Sensor Location
How far from the port should EGT senor fittings be placed in the header? What do you guys use for fittings? Is it a pipe tap nipple or?

As close to the head port as possible ... if you are sampling all of them be sure to place the sensors in the same location at all their respective exhaust ports.
There are several different types of temp sensors and mountings.

I always went about 1 1/2" myself, instructions on most set ups I have seen say 1"-3", and keep them all the same distance if there is one in each tube. 1/8" npt is the norm.

Thanks. I'm also thinking about throwing in an O2 Sensor bung while we are at it. Should these be in the collectors close to the entry or closer to the exit?

I'm using the Altronics Red Alert set up like KY the baller..............it just gives you all 8 individual egt's and the rpm, but its an eye opener. I looked at a full blown datalogger, but on my budget it wasnt in the cards right now.
Lem can set you up.............

Goes in the header tube, about 1-3 inches from flange.

For an accurate reading, the O2s should going in the tubes.

Re: EGT Sensor Location
most kits I have seen only come with 2 O2 sensors, and honestly for a mech injected deal you need to monitor each individual pipe IMO.

Any idea how far from the port exit I should place them? Which cylinders are likely to be the leanest with a Victor manifold?

On my new headers I had the O2 bungs put in two tubes. One each side. One is in #8, the other #3. They are located 1/2 way between the head and exit end of the collector. I also have egt's in 2 cyl as well. A corner and an inside. I'll have 4 of 8 cylinders accounted for. Hopefully the other 4 won't be far enough off to hurt anything. Not going to get it that close to max lean anyway.

I don't know which cylinder would be the leanest, I run mechanical injection. Anywhere midway in the tube is good.
