You want to run the Valve Spring Manufactures Recomended height for the springs, may not be the OEM height. What Cam?

Recommended to use stock springs and stock intake due to longer valve stems. Problem is it was received as an empty casing and we can't find the set up info on this series 429 thunder juet. We can fine the 1972 onward heights which I don't think are the same for the earlier stle. I have the spring height setup but machine shop guy nees the valve installed heights prior to nhim cutting the seats. This is the one bit of info I can't find and all the machine shop can find is 1972 onward. HElP!

VS-703 Springs Install @ 1.82 and give 76# and 215# @ 1.39
I would get a little better Springs IMO, Those are a little light for the cam you have shown, Something like the Ford Racing A50 ones or the suggested ones from Comp Cams would be a much better choice.
Also get the proper retainers and locks for the springs.

longer valve stems do to what ? longer tip lenght or same tip lenght and longer over all .? why the shop needs to know lenght to do the valve job is beyond memgawat wrote:dfree383 wrote:You want to run the Valve Spring Manufactures Recomended height for the springs, may not be the OEM height. Shop problems
Finally figured out what all the confusion was about. It seems (unknown to me or the shop tech) that ther early DOVE castings are about.100" thicker than the 1972 and onward models. Therefore, the valves are .100" longer to make up for it. The same valve height as the later castings will be what's required for these earlier type heads. That what I couldn't get his head around (if the valves were .100" longer than the later model heads, wouldn't that affect the valvle height about deck of head). Answer is no because of the differnce in thickness. I do agree about getting a better set of springs but initially that was one of the shop techs concern also due to the 2 differnt angles possible on these heads (30 or 45)...The 2 differnt spring retainers will take care of that problem. Thanks to everyoine for trying to help me help my shop tech./ Lastly, there was other talk about opening up the exhaust valve size but I think I would need to port it to accomplish anything woth while. My application is 4x4 truck and some towing as shown by my cam...I think the stock valvews will work just fine?
