Timing locked out??
On an all out drag car is it best to just run the timing locked out with no advance or just leave it alone? Will the timing being locked out make it harder to start and is a start retard necessary? Will spinning the motor first then flipping the ignition on alleviate most of the hard starting? Ok, enough questions for now!!

Locking it out will make the timing more stable. I don't have any problem starting mine with 14.1 comp and a stock starter. Just use a good battery and cables.

1.I think it's all what a person wants to do,but me personally,If you don't have a crank trigger I like the weaker springs and the advance coming in full around 2500.
2.Yes,locking it will make the starter work harder.
3.In most cases a retard isn't necessary unless you are having problems tearing starters and flywheels up.
4.Yes,spinning the engine over ,then hitting the ign. helps.

Re: Timing locked out??
It depends on the setup, I use a ct on mine with a start retard, our smallblock uses a locked out dizzy with no start retard, both fire right up by turning on the ign and hitting the starter button, no hard crank or kickbacks.

I got energetic after work and pulled the dizzy and locked it out. Surprisingly easy!! Starts and run good...we'll see tomorrow if she flies!!
