Locked Timing ??'s Empty Locked Timing ??'s

Post  billandlori August 28th 2009, 10:13 am

I have noticed a bunch of you folks run locked timing. Suspect Smile

Is this a race only thing or can it be used on the street too?

Would it be better to feed in timing as the RPM increases on a race engine too?

Thanks,

Bill

Depends on the combo

real race cars typical run in a very narrow rpm band, say 1500-2000rpm or so and use convertors in the 5000+ stall range, so ignition advance is not really necessary and sometimes causes instability / chatter.

Thanks Dave, thats kinda what I thought. All your advance would be in before the converter even locks up!

I still have the light springs, so my advance is all in by 2500rpm. One of these days I'll get around to locking it out.

Sounds like the ignition advance is more of a starting aid than anything else on a performance engine?? scratch
