IMHO that is not too bad, but by the time you add proper hardware, and depending on how good the valves are, you might be better off buying new heads complete, and finding a used intake. You can get quite a bit of $$ in the springs and hardware depending on what you decide to buy. Are these heads ported in any way? How used up are the valves?

Thanks Schmitty,The a-460,s are brand new with valves only, untouched with new matching intake and new header flanges. The price for those heads and intake is great. Summit has them for $1950 EACH fully dressed with springs, etc...
Dig around the PROVEN BUILDS section here. It's got a bunch of 514/521 combos that you can look and chew at. Jon (richter69) ran 9.20s with a 524 and the TFS Street heads in a 69 Stang. I now have his old cam in my 514/P51 combo. The specs on it are 276/287 @ .050 and .763/.761 lift. That cam you have is small for the cubes on that 521. Remember big cubes makes duration on a camshaft seem small... You need a bunch more duration and lift to effectively fill the cylinders.
How good does it rev past 5000 on motor alone? Does it pull really good or does it need the spray to make it pull up top?

And hopefully in a few months I'll tell you how fast it runs with 15 less cubes, equal or better heads and in a Fox body on GAS...

Thanks for the specs,we run mostly 1/8 mile and she pulls hard all the way.6.13@111, i think it,s a real torque monster to be so mild. I only turn it 6000-6500max.Thanks1970 MAVjbozzelle wrote:The price for those heads and intake is great. Summit has them for $1950 EACH fully dressed with springs, etc...

Your car runs very good. Like everyone has said you have some room to grow with what you have for sure. With 12.8-1 you could run more cam. I like to push it a bit on camshaft. I would like 280°-282° on the intake and 288°-292° exhaust on a 112° LC in @ 106. I like Mavericks, you don't see many nowadays.

I'd get the heads looked at by a pro and new roller cam matched to what you have along with possibly a gear and converter tweak... It'll be cheaper than a full change including heads. That old cam is hurting the combo IMO.
My ? IS. How can you already have the RIGHT cam, when you haven't decided what heads you are going to go with?

What are the specs on the solid roller you have? Why not stick it in now and see what it'll do?
