429 block ?
I've got a 1968 429 block , and I was wondering if they are as strong as the later blocks ? I'm looking at doing a 502 or 521 stroker from coast high performance to put in my 68 dodge dart, it would be numbers matching then being from the same year

Re: 429 block ?
Now thats a great project.... Putting a Ford engine in a mopar !!!
Yes all the 2 bolt blocks are equal, the later ones just have longer cylinders.

Re: 429 block ?
I did a backhalf for this die hard dodge guy and he gave me the dart , it's just a shell but it's in good shape . I can't wait to see the look on his face . I'm sure I'll get some good responses at the track to .

Re: 429 block ?
I thought about using boss heads but I need a set of a-460's for my mustang so I'll put the edelbrocks on the dart engine.

Re: 429 block ?
I'd just tell them is a stroked wedge with a date matching block. Then wait for it when they see it !!!

Re: 429 block ?
a 4.5" with a 6.7 or 6.8 rod is very common and fits fine. and with a .080 over bore that gives you a 557, but its a good idea to sonic the block before boring it.

I'm not gonna go past a 521 , I'm not gonna get crazy with this one it's gonna be pump gas .

a 545 with a 4.5 arm and a .030, inches are your friend, for power and it doesn't cost any more to get a 545 than a 521

Re: 429 block ?
I'll look into the 545 , I thought I heard something about pump gas not working as good in higher cubed engines , don't know if it's true , but a .030 over sounds good , I don't wanna take to much cylinder away

Re: 429 block ?
I like the idea but knowing some Mopar guys I think you would be better to keep the hood shut as much as possible they are the ones that would slit your throat for something like that.

Re: 429 block ?
I'm sure , but half my friends are dodge guys and they know it's a budget deal , and it's cheaper to put a ford in it than buying everything new , I have the block intake and heads . It'll be fun when the anouncer at the track says what's in it before the burnout .

Re: 429 block ?
Lol true, I laugh as the announcer at my home track always mentions that my truck no longer has the original 4 banger in it even though I run no hood and everyone can clearly see that.

Re: 429 block ?
I don't know what trans to Put in it, P/A or dynamics c-4 or an overdrive with a brake of course . I've already got a 9" I just have to put ladder bars on it . Another one of the mopar guys I know said if I put a ford in it he wouldn't talk to me anymore , So that's what it takes, if I only knew that sooner.
