H beam rod separation
I really dont wanta buy a rod/cap separater. Is there another safe way of separating them? They are pretty tight.

Put a couple rags in a vice and clamp the cap ... then wiggle it until it separates.

Ok, got'em. I took two little blocks of wood and used a good size flat head screwdriver in between them with a twist.

Please do not put anything between the cap and rod to pry them apart. It is important to not damage the mating surfaces in any way. Randy's suggestion of making a soft vice jaw protector should work fine. Small pieces of aluminum angle work well if your vice jaws are serrated. The rag idea, properly applied will work. Just gently wiggle the rod and evenly pull it from the cap.

I think he meant he used THE HANDLE of a big screwdriver with a twist in the big end bore to get it separated ... I hope.

the way i took it he used a couple pieces of wood that were big enough to just leave enough room between them to squeeze a screw driver between and twist to force it apart...... i hope.

norm, yea ur right and a few were pretty tight. The wood leave no scares. It was easy.
