Re: Starting a 488ci A headed deal
Made really good power on the dyno, but started seeing more bearing material in the oil filter after the 2nd time on the dyno. Final numbers were 839.6hp@7100 and 680lb/ft@6000.
Pulled the motor apart and saw #3 cam journal was getting trashed really bad. We've had to scuff that bearig to get the cam to fit, and just didn't like to have to keep doing that. The last motor using that block (my 466) had the same problem. Long story short, the block is out getting the cam tunnel line bored for roller bearings.

Karl, are you going to 4 bolt it or put a girdle on it if you decide to spray it?

Re: Starting a 488ci A headed deal
I had no cap walk last time with the 2 bolt main setup, so the plan is to keep it going as is. With it being a d1 block, it looks like drilling in the extra bolts would weaken the walls some and make things worse. As to a main girdle, I haven't read anywhere where they are worth the money to put them in.

Most comp cam roller cams for a 460 need to be properly fit for the cam bearings.

Re: Starting a 488ci A headed deal
The update is I got a wild hair last month after missing the May race to cut the floor and firewall out so I can weld in the front bars, rocker bars and seat bars. That's all welded in and I'm finishing the new .040 thick aluminum floor/firewall today. Then it's drop the motor in and finish modifying the headers so I can race next Saturday:) I've got a ton of work left, but I'm pushing to get it ready!

That makes 2 of us! The plan is, if I can get it finished, is to go down and make motor only passes just to see how it handles and runs. It sucks not having time to test it 1st, but it's been a long season of baseball with my son and I wouldn't trade it for the world! Heck, I'm not even going to run the cuts just because I want to see how the suspension and chassis mods work!

I'm expecting to need to do a ton of tuning, but I just want to see how it acts with the new setups

Good luck bud. I didn't have to do any chassis tuning on mine even with all of the changes that I made, maybe you will have the same luck.

Re: Starting a 488ci A headed deal
Only got it out a couple of times this year. Motor is stong and makes more power than my truck can handle. Broke 2 NP205 transfer cases along with a couple drive shafts and yokes. Need to post up my last run and put it here. Still struggling with suspension setup as well, can't get the rear to hook up and give me a good launch.

The last bump is I rolled the truck this past November totaling it. Still did a 3.3 second pass on the cut tires and 250 nitrous tune up, coming out the hole sideways barrel rolling it 2 times landing on the wheels. Crushed the S&W 10 point cage because I never added more brace bars like I knew I should have. New truck is already being built with a much bigger motor to propel it, stay tuned for a new build thread....

First emotion is shock , then continue reading and then it turns to "Sweet"
Glad you're ok, most importantly.
