I don't get it...
I'll try to make this as short as possible. My excursion is a 2001 with 171,000 miles on it and a 5.4. I've tried to take good care of it and it's in pretty good shape especially for the miles. A couple weeks ago I started seriously considering getting rid of it and upgrading so I started shopping around. So I start talking to the Ford dealerships in the area( there's three of them). I drove the excursion there and told them I wanted a diesel, preferably a Dually and am not interested in a 6.0, or 6.4, so it either had to be a very low mileage 7.3, or new, hell I even tried to call Bruno to see how his ecoboost was towing. So after a Few emails, and a few trips to each and getting the blowoff each time I finally settled on a 2012 Xlt Dually and started trying o make a deal. Apparently new Ford duallies are gold. When I told them my company gets vendor pricing they said thy don't honor it on diesels, and they don't negotiate price, take it or leave it, they also would only give me $2500 for my trade because it was gas and no one wants them. Feeling a little pissed I proceeded to drive across the street to the Chevy dealership who had two 2013 Duramax duallies which were priced comparably. I drove the one I liked and the sticker was $55710, my vendor pricing was $42417, they gave me $5500 for my Excursion, expressed interest in my Wife's mustang which is for sale which kind of made me chuckle, but when they said they would give me $8500 for it and they really have no use for a modified 1991 mustang I figured why not, they basically TRIED to earn my business rather than give me the brush off and act like I wasnt worthy of their vehicle. So I basically came out of pocket 28k and change for a new Duramax crew cab Dually. Even with a 200k extended warranty. Don't get me wrong I like the Fords too. I didn't even look at Dodges, but for Christ sake if someone is standing there saying I have money, I want I buy a truck, then sell them one for goodness sake.

Re: I don't get it...
Kind of sucks when you get blown off like that. I am working on a Lariat dually right now, and the dealer here is trying very hard and wants my trade in vehicle. I do know that the 11 diesel SRW F350 C/C I have now has some serious resale for them, and the trade value is good right now. I just don't know that I want to upgrade that far yet. Nothing wrong with the Duramax IMO, they are a good solid truck, and they treated you like a customer should be treated. You should have called Lem, he knows how to treat a customer on a vehicle purchase and you might have ended up with a Ford.

Re: I don't get it...
I really wanted to buy a new Ford, I just don't understand how you can let someone go across the street when they are begging you to make something happen. The same thing happened to me in 05 when I was in the market for a half ton for my fleet, the ford dealers wanted no part of it, and the chebbie dealer all but let me write the deal myself. Lem was out of the question as he's too far for my schedule to accommodate. If this chebbie dually is anything like the 05 half ton, I should be ok.
Re: I don't get it...
They really aren't much more than gas half tons if you ask me. The Ecoboost is crazy expensive for a half ton truck, I'm sure here great but man are they high.dfree383 wrote:I"ve given up on new diesels... They are just to much money.

I hear ya, I'm in the market for a new truck in the next 6 months to a year...... I'll probably end up with something used and from the 90's...... I just cant swallow the price of the new stuff anymore.

Re: I don't get it...
I'd say the same, but I keep them forever, and get my use out of them, your right though, it's pretty ridiculous, but for me it just seems better. A couple years old makes a huge difference in price it seems.dfree383 wrote:Barney wrote:They really aren't much more than gas half tons if you ask me. Re: I don't get it...
My brother is a GM man and I don't think you can go wrong with a duramax. They make great power and ride nice. Ford always seems the worst for doing any kind of deal.I paid $51 for my 03 7.3. I have heard plenty of Dodge stories like your experience as well. I actually feel sorry for them because it almost seems like they have to pay you to take a Dodge. lol. My dad has plenty of them and they have come a long way and are pretty nice trucks as well. You would think with all the problems Ford has had since 2003 they would want to get as many good diesels out there as they can just for reputation sake.

I disagree, some dealers want your arm and leg and won't accept nothing less. The Duramax was a good choice,we have mostly Chevy(gas) trucks here at work. The biggest problems we've encountered is w/instrumentation and parts underneath the body falling off and just little (expensive shit.)
If a dealer is not wanting to deal w/me,I will do like Barney and go somewhere else.

You just didn't find the right Ford dealer, not all Ford dealers are created equal. I know if I were going to buy a new truck I would make the 10-11 hr. drive to Livermore. Lem and his employees are on there game, hands down over any Ford dealer close to me.

This why I have driven TWICE to Ky to get a car for the wife !!
Our local dealer has sucked for years.. Take it or leave attitude, because they are (or use to be) the only game in town.
Dealing with Lem's folks has always been a painless and pleasurable experience.

Re: I don't get it...
I went to three, they all acted like they were doing me a favor by allowing me the chance to overpay. They all wanted to put me in the most loaded truck on the lot, all I wanted was a crew cab Dually with cloth, not leather, nothing fancy, just a few options, apparently that means a King Ranch to them. Oh well I tried.Doug Rahn wrote:You just didn't find the right Ford dealer, not all Ford dealers are created equal. Re: I don't get it...
I'm sure there are exceptions, and Lem is easy to deal with, however you shouldn't have to drive 8 hours just to spend 40 k, I would think they would want your business.QtrWarrior wrote:Doug Rahn wrote:You just didn't find the right Ford dealer, not all Ford dealers are created equal. You're , you shouldn't have to drive that far and I can't believe that they have the attitude they have.
We actually went to the local dealer to try and get the wife's Escape, as we actually "know" someone there.
They knew we were coming to test drive the car...we show up, get the keys and look for it...
He says..it's over there.... 1/2 way across the lot And when we get to it...it's dirty and nasty...
Mud on the floors and coffee stains on the driver's seat and dash..
This is a BRAND new car...all 27 miles
End result..they didn't want to deal, wanted to low ball our trade in..so on the way home...The wife was on my phone calling Lem..

Re: I don't get it...
I honestly wish car manufactures and dealers would stop with the wheeling and dealing and just publish a good guy strait and fair price to start with. More like going to walmat or Sears.... The Price you see is the price you pay.
But the fact is the last 100 years they have created a jacked up market.
What even pisses me off more is dealers that put the sticker on the car and then add deal market mark-up on it below the line.... ran into that alot in Washington. Then act like they are doing you a favor selling you a regular car over cost. Its almost like going into a harley davidison dealer to buy a bike and they add $3000 in shit and accessories to it you don't want and won't remove them.

Re: I don't get it...
We use to have a great Ford dealer here in Springfield. When I was a kid it was Kite Ford, by the time I was 20 Mr. Kite sold it to a German immigrate named Hans Mann. I bought my first new car from him. He and his employees would treat you the same as if you were a multimillionaire. Great sales service and a top notch service garage. Plus he was a real treat to talk to with his heavy German accent. When I bought the '90 Mustang that is now my race car he told me, German accent "You be careful driving that car, four out of five in up in the trees"! Which was mostly true around here, High School grads getting them for graduation, . But after he died, his son took over the business and totally ran it in to the ground and eventually ended up closing.

Re: I don't get it...
I got a good deal on mine but it isn't fancy by any means. Didn't jerk me around on my trade either. I did a little research beforehand and showed up with the truck I wanted to drive and a I don't have to have this truck attitude and I think that helps but if a dealer isn't willing to work with you, you're pretty much screwed. Sucks that 3 of them had that attitude with you, especially during these times. Poppa Bear also went with Lem for his last 2 vehicles as well, same awesome service you receive with the go fast stuff!! Only reason I went new with the deisel is it will be my paid off turd one day, I love the power this things got. Only towed my boat so far but it feels like if I flogged it, the hitch and boat would be ripped right off the back!

BINGO!!!!!!!! My wife and I had a pleasant buying experience at a dealership when we bought her 2010 ford flex 2 years ago. It was a demo version driven by the owners wife. I too will not ever buy a brand spanking new vehicle. My wife fell in love with it and it is a great all around ride. It was already priced great, but I wanted to Jew a little more LOL. So when time came for negotiation, I went in with my guns a blazing. The salesman said, look man the price on vehicle is it. Take it or leave it. So this threw a wrench in my plan. What to do? I gotta feel like I worked hard for this deal. LOL. So when time came for financing, I just negotiated interest rates.....that was all I could do. Got a smoking good deal on a near new car and a great rate on the financing. I love it.

Re: I don't get it...
I hate negotiating with people. Just not that type of person. I usually test drive it, we pick it out then I leave and let Lisa chew on their ass about the price.
The last two vehicles I have bought have been from dealers over 30 miles away due to similar crap like Jason had. The problem with buying something from a long ways away is getting warranty/service work. The dealerships around here gives you shitty service if you didn't buy from them.

Re: I don't get it...
Put a couple hundred miles on it the last couple days, and Hooked the trailer up and moved some furniture for my neighbors just to tow with it. It's getting about 19 empty, and got 15 while towing. Has pretty good power, and is a lot quieter than I expected fits all six of us. This is my first deisel so I really have nothing to compare it to, but seems to labor a lot less than the excursion and never seems to downshift ever. Good enough for me I suppose.

Dave, why are you being so negitive? Did your camel kick you or some thing? No mention of the deal you got on the blue F150 you bought in east Tn. that was below the min. wage.
I saw your Boss engine today...he ask if you still loved him.
