My 57' F100 Motor, what ya think?
Well I have owned my truck almost a year now. The truck had about 6000 miles over the past 16 or so years. The original builder past away right after he built it and the last owner had too many toys to ever really enjoy it. I wanted to change the look of the engine up so I pulled the engine for a little detail work and a re-seal. Here is what I have found out so far:
DIVE-A2B, 2-bolt block
4U crank .010/ .010
C8VE-A rods
TRW forged Flat tops
D20E-A Police Interceptor heads with some light port work/ gasket matched
Weiand Steath 8012 intake
Weiand 8211 water pump
Isky 311281, Hydraulic Flat Tappet Cam, 280 Duration, 232 @ .050, .565 Intake/ Exhaust lift, 108* Lobe separation.
1.72 full roller rockers
Eldelbrock 750 cfm carb
How should this combination work out? Any idea what type of compression I am looking at with flat tops and the D20E heads?
Thanks in advance!

Opps. I forgot I am also using the police interceptor exhaust manifolds but I believe I wil step up to some decent headers when the engine goes back in. Any suggestions on headers for a 57' F100? The truck does have the front frame swapped, it sports a 71' Torino GT front end w/ power steering.

should run great. How much gear? What Trans / Convertor?
Definetly look into some headers.

Not sure on the converter because they transmission was having some slipping issues but i think it was stalling at about 2100-2400. The rear end I want to double check but I was told 3.90. I am looking into switching to a ZF 5 speed trans so the converter would be a mute point. I do like to hit the highway and the 3200 @ 70 w/ 6 MPG gets old real quick! I love the sound of a heavy cam but I am almost thinking of stepping down a notch or two.

Anyone know what compression I should be hitting w/ the D20E heads and flat tops?

9 to 9.5:1 depending on head gaskets or machine work thats been done.

57 F100
Sanderson makes excellent headers for a 429-460 in your truck. 1957 F100's often came factory with a 3.89 rear gear in the first year of 9 inch housings.

That would be great but after checking the prices for a adapter bellhouse and to have a 700R4 built to stand up behind my BBF it would be way out of my price range!

i think i paid $400 for the adapter from coan the adapter is a engine plate that i cut down to match the back of the engine looks great. you can use your ford flexplate and starter with the coan adapter. the trans i build myself using a pro built kit got around $500 in the kits another $500 in a converter the drive shaft is a junk yard one $50. its been the best thing that i did to go overdrive have done a couple drag weeks that were 1200 mile each and go on the eway a lot no problemcoolbreeze1340 wrote:quick 52 wrote:i got a 700r4 in my 52 f1 its at 2300 @ 70 with a 3.89 and 28" tires
