First big block build, have ran Windsor stuff for years. I was dead set on building an afr 225 headed 400+ in windsor with a kit on it for a street strip motor. Was looking for a 5.80 pass on the spray with stock suspension and 275's and be able to drive it to work on nice afternoons. From what I can tell and what Ive been told a big block will allow me to achieve or maybe even surpass my goal of 5.80's on spray and it still be driveable on the street. Anyone who could help me with the build and put me in the right direction would be greatly appreciated. Only stips are stock block, fairly budget friendly, street friendly, 5 sec. time slip in the 1/8th. Thanks for any info.

IMO the most important part is your total budget. Will need good heads, rods and pistons. Of course it depends on how much juice u want to put to it. But first how much are u looking to spend on a total build?

Well if I dive into the big block world I'll sell my afr 225's and buy some aluminum cobra jets from kaase, so even trade there worth about 2 grand. Then on the motor itself I already have a stock block, so rotating assembly, intake, carb., distributor, etc... Would like to stay under 3 grand for the short block and intake

Get the P51 heads, they are worth the extra money over the SCJ's

X2 on what Dave said about the heads. I would go to Highflowdynamics.com and read up on the oiling mods. Pauls pump is also a great piece. Diamond Pistons, Eagle rods, balance it and get a custom roller cam from Lem Evans or someone else on this forum. Ford gave us a great engine in the 385 series, and it makes good power. Hope this helps.
