Re: headsup dragster class ??
Why heads up? Even the Div 3 Jeg's Quick 32 Series and the Top Dragsters in NHRA run off of a dial-in. 4.60's and 4.70's is about as quick as you want to be on some of these short 1/8th mile tracks. However, 4.20's and 4.40's is okay on some of the longer nicer tracks. Do a Quick 16 for Ford powered only,,,dragsters and/or tube chassis door cars, and let them do dial-ins and then maybe you can get a full field. The pay-out needs to be at least $1500 to the winner in order to draw the cars.

Re: headsup dragster class ??
Dragster drivers don't need the title of "heads up". We're smart enough to know that means "most money". Just make it a quick class with a bonus for #1 qualifier and that you can't run more than .010 off your qualifying time.

I'm with Charlie... You make things to specialized you won't get the turnout.

Re: headsup dragster class ??
My opinion if you are going to make it a bracket race is that you can't dial more than a tenth slower than the slowest qualified dragster. Lane choice will be decided by qualifing order for whole race. That way at least qualifying will get exciting. I would also be up for a heads up deal to but there are not enough dragsters quick enough for that I dont think.

Re: headsup dragster class ??
you might be able to have a 4.40 index race? allow power adders.
craig sullivan
scott carman
mike stevens
kristina lawyer
curt rickerson
guys add your name if you can compete at the 4.40 level and then it would have to be a date everyone could come. if you could get 8 that would be cool. imo.

Re: headsup dragster class ??
Maybe could make it a 4.50 index ?? just like the Jeg's series.
That way you might have cars that could run it NA and some slower cars that normally run 4.70 / 4,80 could try and step up ??
But if nothing else..4.40 would work..

The racers probably won't like it but, from a "spectator" standpoint it should be about the car and DRIVER so, don't allow any delay boxes and there are more "hole shot" wins, in a 4.50 index, quick 8 or 16.
With whatever kind of car can compete; door car OR dragster OR altered.
This probably can't happen because of a low payout however, a "Quick 16" dial-in race withOUT any index and no boxes allowed is run up here once a year with one power adder allowed, (nitrous, supercharger or nitro), and you get some 3 second Top Sportsman and Alcohol Dragster type cars. Though they aren't all Fords; do whatever you gotta do in order to get more than a pre-race full field so qualifying means a bunch...
Re: headsup dragster class ??
How would you enforce "no delay box" , when most of these cars probably have them ?

Then you'll need to bring in the top fuel teams. That will draw a crowd.
Randy's idea sounds like someone from a car club posted a response that knows nothing about a bracket dragster, "which we all are".
I can promise you, we won't draw a crowd. If we did, we all be sponsored and racing for a living.

No it won't..
Set the rules and live by them..
But think it all out before you set the rules...

Re: headsup dragster class ??
I know two things are certain for me
1) I'm not disconnecting my delay box.
2) I'm not going to spray enough to outrun all of the motors built for nitrous.

Re: headsup dragster class ??
Local Owensboro KY area Ford Powered Dragsters that come to mind;
1. Phillip Oakley
2. Kristina Lawyer
3. Bobby Small
4. Bobby Shrewsberry
5. Scott Carman
6. Jared Winters
7. Larry Conolty
8. Cheyenne Stanley
Then on a bigger national area we have;
9. Craig Sullivan
10. Frank Douglass
11. Darren Douglass
12. David Reynolds
13. Curt Richerson
14. Mike Stevens
15. Andre Meade
16. Robert Snowball (2 cars)
17. Dylan(?) Stott
18. Steve Everett
19. Dana Lutz
20. Powerstroke Ace
Then I'm sure there are some I'm forgetting, so apologies to those whom I didn't mention. Anyway, the trick would be to get them to all show up. A low qualifier bonus would be nice, along with a healthy payout.
When it comes to dragsters you need to think in terms of NHRA racing,,, and not in terms of Yellow Bullet heads up. The Top Dragster show that they had at Ohio Valley Raceway back in September was exciting imo. Kristina won the thing with a string of high 4.40's and was pulling big wheelstands all night long. Even my friend Dan Hobbs enjoyed it. Watching a bunch of fast dragsters, with every one of them over 1000 Hp, is kinda like watching throughbred horse racing. All the horses look the same, and most of them are dark brown in color, but it is still exciting because of their quickness, their speed, and the closeness of the competition.
