I think they are doing it in Indy also, they don't expect many spectators.

Re: Heads up Dragster class !!!!
Trying to hook up 1000hp, 1900 lb car on skinner tires will be quite different. We would have to run a taller tire or the bottom of the pipe rack will be dragging the ground. You guys might think that would be the show, but as a driver, we just want to have fun.

Re: Heads up Dragster class !!!!
I think it's a stupid idea What's it prove? Who can buy the best traction control device? It's like inviting a bunch of bad crashes and wrecks IMO. Is NHRA approving this in the name of "safety"? It's like oiling down a track and then saying now go make a pass. I used to run obstacle courses when I was in the Army, I sure don't want to have a race car driver running one now with 1000+ Hp behind them.

Re: Heads up Dragster class !!!!
I think the dragster on 10.5w would be safer than a mustang trying to to the same thing. IMHO

Re: Heads up Dragster class !!!!
Curt most likely you're right. I guess that explains why Lem, Phillip and myself saw Samuel Vincent do a complete 360* loop at about the 600' mark at Beech Bend during the NMRA World Finals a few years back. I'm not a "fan" of the 10.5 tire deal in either case.

Re: Heads up Dragster class !!!!
Yeah, I know. I understand. But the big honking tires we run now are just point and shoot. The outlaw class would add some new competition to the field.

Re: Heads up Dragster class !!!!
You want to limit a drag car.... do the circle jerk thing and make them use a 390 cfm carb...... or a 2v.....

Re: Heads up Dragster class !!!!
If they want to make them more fun to watch ...limit the wheelbase to 110" and put a no wheelie bar rule in affect and make them front engine only:twisted:

Re: Heads up Dragster class !!!!
this is like de ja vu, I think Ive seen these rules posted elsewhere?? mmmm
actually have the email of the rules before they were online.
There's alot more to it than the dragster thing.
see link.
Friday Nite Rage Rules
Story behind this is Kurt Johnson the new race director at LOR sought several of the local racers opinions on a heads up program when he came to Indy. I had a convo with Mike Starks @ CFM and KJ, he shared his ideas with us and all we did was get the word out to some racers on some forums. Held a meeting at Buffalo wild wings here by my shop in Avon and gave him lots of feedback. A couple more emails, some other folks input... Craig Sullivan had alot of input on the dragster class, Andy and I offered some of our thoughts on other classes. Lots of of people spoke up, and Kurt listened. He had the basics of what he wanted to do already. Read more here.
LOR " In the Groove"
This is the greatest thing that has happened in a long time for drag racing here in Indy. I cant say enough how thrilled we are to have this right here in the back yard. I plan to do all I can to promote it, and hopefully participate.
Other Local tracks like Bunker Hill are looking to follow suite.
If you guys think you might participate or come watch as a fan, shoot me an email and I'll include you in the email list. You can always follow the latest on IRS. We'd love to have some of the DIXIE DOOR SLAMMERS there hint hint..
