How much HP from a DOVE-C head on a 466 ? Empty How much HP from a DOVE-C head on a 466 ?

I started searching this and got tired of looking ,so decided to ask!
What is the most hp that has been made with these heads on a 13.5:1 compression 466 with good internals ?
I am trying to get an Idea of how much money and where I want to go with this engine. Thanks

I think there are several builders on this site that have done truck pull engines with DOVE heads that make serious power. I would bet that if the parts were properly matched one could get to 700 or possibly more HP.

On 460 ( yes stock bore) ,Dove heads stock stroke, solid cam,vic intake ,1050 carb(4500 dom) swap headers for a fox body@3000 have had the cars run 10.20s to 9.90s

this engine made around 600 to the wheels,most of the tests were at 1500 to 1800 feet of air


I should probably put this in the proven build section

3000 lb, 466, flat top, flat tappet cam. C4, 4.10 gear, 10.35 @ 135 mph, 3500 conv. (too tight needed 5000) 60 ft 1.5's should have been 1.30 60's. Heads ported but not a very good job, 2.190 valve.

Yes I do and if I remember it went 6.50 at the valley the last time I saw it run.
I would like to keep these heads add good rods,lighter pistons, solid roller cam, vic intake, and a 1050cfm carb. let me know if you guys think that it will be worth it. I would like to run as much of this engines parts as possible to cut down on cost. If that is possible!

Harolds 466 @13.5.1 ,C9's w/big valves and some home porting(no flow bench).car was close to 3000# w/him.It ran some 5.90's or maybe faster.

we had tried a few diff gears, best was 4.11 overall with nos, cam ill have to look up,flat tappet 666ish lift @ the valve ,but dont quote me on that yet, if i think of it ill look tomorrow,tire was a 11.50x15 et street on this one

About 6 years ago I did a .060 over (472) D0VE headed deal for a puller, compression was closer to 14 to 1. Using a Pretty big C&S Dominator, Victor intake running on VP113. Just broke 750 around 7300 I believe. Heads were good, but could've been better.

I got the old fairlane running, but made some changes . ! I changed from the stealth intake to a Vic. 460 intake . Changed from the c4 to the c6 , and changed from 3500 stall to 4500 stall speed converter.

Do you think these changes are for the better ?

Look at proven build "466 in a ranger". Overall when it was said and tuned in, made 704hp @7200 with Freelander worked D0ve heads, Lem speced solid roller cam, ported FRPP "Victor" intake, 1150 dominator, and 2 1/8" headers

I used a 1" Jomar Power cone under the carb with the 1/2" thick nitrous plate under that.

Yes............. Worth around 15 hp on an average. More in some cases.

my old combo ran a best of 10.57 at 128mph , it was a 472'' with ported c8 heads, stealth intake, 850 holley and the old heavy trw dish pistons #2404 , small flat hyd cam (comp 292) and a tci 11' converter that I couldn't foot brake over 1500 , the springs on the heads were comp 926 single that sat for over 10 years without the rockers backed off , and the c6 I pulled from a old box van had some good flair to it, all in all I think it did ok for what it was , weight was 2770 with me and 3.90 gears on a 28x10 slick.

Mine is a .030 over with trw 2443 pistons, stock rods, crank, small solid roller lift is .631 cant remember the rest, ported c9 heads with bigger valves, 4500 vic intake, 1050 holley. C6 with a UCC converter and at 3385lbs it runs 10.90s@123 with a 1.57 60'. This is in a 1985 mustang gt.
