25.1E double frame rail 80 notch
Decided to build a chromoly 25.1E double frame rail notch from the ground up. Ordered the complete chassis from R2B2 racecars and sent the check this week. Going this week to get the box tubing for the jig and get it set up. Gonna take me a while to do so this but I need something to handle the 598 Ahead I want to build. Will post lots of pic went I get started.

R2B2's stuff should be a very usable kit since it's Jim Geese (old Vanishing Point race cars) chassis designs.
Crank up the Tig welder & go to town.

Went and picked up the jig today and started gutting the car. Guess you can say its a shell of its former self.

Just spot welds and little metal to remove now. Chassis should ship Monday or Tuesday. I can hardly wait!

Depending on how big and/or tight fitting they made the cage you might still need to remove all the remaining inner body/roof structure sheetmetal & inner window frame structures to make room. But removing all of the remaining inner body structure isn't a big deal on a full chassis car anyway since the body it's self is no longer a structural component.

Yeah the inside shell in the roof etc. will all come out. Leaving it in for now to keep it a little stiffer for moving it around. Everything that doesn't need to be in there is coming out. I want it light!

It should be light! My '93 Mustang hatchback car with a mild steel 2X3 main frame weighed 2170# without me in it. A460 headed, A96 block 557", powerglide combo...A 25.1E chromoly car should be a little lighter I would think, with an iron block I would guess about like mine with the aluminum block...I look forward to watching the build.

Not made up my mind on wheelbase yet. But thinking about stretching it a little maybe to a 110.

Re: 25.1E double frame rail 80 notch
If you're planning on slamming it on the ground you might have to get a little creative to find more wheel tub height/room since it is a notchback. 110" w/b is fine too, more stable on the top end is more-gooder.

Lookin good.
I forget if it's been mentioned but is this going to be a tri-pod setup for the top strut mounts, or will it have the traditional down bars running from the A-pillar bars to the top strut mounts?

Re: 25.1E double frame rail 80 notch
This is the tripod setup for the strut mounts. This is a lot of fun to build, but I wish I had the money to buy one complete. I'm getting impatient and don't have the money to throw at it like I'd I wish I could.

Richie is the MAN!
" />" />" />
The first photo we had to redesign the double frame rail to get me more room in the car. I fit nicely now! Ordered the Strange frontend Friday so it should be in this week. Gotta keep Richie going! He has done an outstanding job putting this thing together!

Re: 25.1E double frame rail 80 notch
Finally after a long time of sitting in the corner the chassis is loaded in the trailer along with the bell and GF2000 5 speed and heading to Vanishing Point Race Cars to get finished. Chassis is 75% welded but needs to be finished. It's sat long enough and I've gotten impatient. Weeks have turned to months and months to years. Need this car done so I can take it to the reunion next year.
