78 F150 460 ENG Oil Pan Wont Come Out

I have a 78 ford F150 with a 460 engine and the welded in cross member wont allow the oil pan to come down enough to pull it out anybody have any ideas with out pulling the engine?????

Can you unbolt the engine mounts and lift the engine just enough to pull the pan without disconnecting everything else?

BTW, what's the reason for pulling the pan? ...it might be worth yanking the engine.

There was a small leak and the bolts were hand tight the engine was rebuilt when I bought it a year ago, so when i was inspecting everything this morning I noticed that the bolts were not tight at all and one was missing, I also want to paint the oil pan and seal it back the right way, but I am thinking of pulling the engine so I can put a better piston in not sure yet....

you'll need to jack the motor as high as you can and put a spacer in the motor mount to hold it there ,ie a 13/16 deep socket laid in the mount works , and you may need to drop the oil pump and pickup in the pan to get it out , I believe that's how I use to do it back in the late '70's when I worked on the bench!

That's how you get it out. Gettin' it back in though.......

Yes if you think getting it out is bad, waite till you try and put all 3 back at the same time.

Back in the day that's how it was done on the bench , Yes it is tricky to to re-position the pump back in and get the drive rod in place but the pan hangs down about 5" so it isn't to bad
