As the title says. I decide to go to the 385 series. Engine.

I.got.both of these for 350 bucks so hope I did good.

1 is a C9 bare block.STD. bore I think org. Its a 429
The other one is.a.complete engine block date says D1 and it has D3 heads on it all together still is this a 429 or a 460?

Not that the cubes matter. What I need to know what is the better block for a 4.500 stroked build. What's the maximum bore I can get out of the C9 block and the D1 block.
I.will or.want about 11to1 Max going with alum heads was thinking of the super cobra jets only cause of my budget
So what block is stronger and will take the most bore.I will be running a solid roller.cam too with a nos cheater kit 175to.250 jets plate.system my Carb is a 4150 style 1000 cfm race demon C4 trans super comp. With trans. Brake with 6 gear plantaery gear set brand new with a bm 10 inch nitrous converter BTW. I will need a JW bell housing to bolt to.my C4
I know.a.powebutide would be best but .but already have the trans and conv. The conv. For.a.SBC will work on a bbf. Right since iam.going stholed kit. it.comes with the smaller pliot hole?

Sorry for.the poor grammar.due to dyslexia am.trying.my hardest Thanks.
that's all for right now.
thanks its going in a tubbed 86 LX with ladder bars.

The C9 block has slightly stronger main webbing in the bottom but, that is it ... neither the C9 or D1 has the longer cylinders, (about .200"), or slightly higher deck height, (.012" to .020"),of the later truck blocks.
All the production 385 wedge blocks are all over the place as to cylinder wall thickness & strength; Sonic checking is the only way to tell.

The C9 block came out of a thunder bird 2 bold mains
the 71.block came out of a 71 Lincoln so I was told this engine has D3 heads is this common and could it have 4 bolt mains the oil pan is still on that Eng. So is it a 429 or.460 just wondering. Thanks

Not most likely the 71 should have dove-c heads on it and the c9 should have c9ve heads or dove-a heads

Thanks 69.F100. I didn't see the link last night I wake up and.saw.I.has an.e.mail.about this link. Which I didn't click on till.just now.it was.helpful thanks.am.new.to the bbf. Motor looks wider then my 408W.
I so think.I will need.a.manual brake booster.
the C9.block is.pretty rusted.but should boilout. The other motor am going to take.it.down at work toady and see I'd the main webs.are.as.thick.as the c9.block. how.to I post pics here insert the picture URL.in the image?
Are these motor OK.for.a.4.500 stroke crank. Due to the shorter cylinder.? Should or would it be better of.with a 4.300.stroke.? Going.super jet cobra head most likely with SRCam but Max lift of about .700 -.750 lift.with Victor intake 4150 1000 cfm.carb cause .on my 408W I think it's a.little to big.
what's the price different between the super cobra jet heads. And the trick.flow.heads .oh and are.the SCJ heads say from summit kasses.heads.looking of a.good.head straitjackets out the box.
my goal is.to ru a 10.0 no motor.then.add.my cheater kit to it will a 250 jet be to much for the block?

What's a good.brand.stroker kit to. Uh? Is a.steel4340 crank nessary I don't mind spending the cash if its.what I.need also getting H beam.rods.with the upgraded rod.bolts if I need them too.a forgde pistons am guessing will be a dished piston.not sure what CC.head I need

Sorry for all the? S.should I make a new post for every question I have?
There's no going back.to the SBF in this car now.
thanks bbf people.is my build.10.0 do able? Without the juice?

Finished horsepower between comparably built 4.3" stroke and 4.5" stroke engines is about the same but at different RPM levels however, the 4.5" stroke engine will exhibit about 4% more torque.

they are a few venders here that sales stroker kits but if it was me I would go ahead and spend the extra on the forged crank for insurance with the nos.

Adney has some great deals on stroker kits.

Adney Brown –Performance Crankshaftinc
His signature describes his services pretty well, I think:
PERFORMANCE CRANKSHAFT INC,. YOUR FIRST STOP FOR CRANKSHAFT REPAIR , MODIFICATIONS AND CUSTOM CRANKSHAFTS /; ROTATING ASSEMBLIES ... coffee donuts and entertainment available at no extra charge ... shop phone 586-549-7557 lounge phone 313-873-6588

Here also is the vender list we have here these guys will let you know what best for your build.

Both the C9VE and the D1VE blocks are standard-webbed blocks, and in that regard either is equally suitable for the build you are considering. Both blocks will require machining so it doesn't particularly matter which one you start with...although you could inspect them each more closely and decide based on your observations.

The "D1VE" on the block is not a date code. Assuming that engine is factory original, the D1VE blocked engine was manufactured between 1973-1978 and therefore is most likely a 460 since the only D3VE-headed 429 was the 1973 model while D3VE-headed 460s were produced from 1973-1978.

I remember a guy when asked what is a good BBF block to use, his reply was the first one you trip over. Laughing

For about 700 hp and below they all are good.
