545 Stroker Kit Line Hone

I am just looking at purchasing a 545 stroker kit for my 460. I am down to the block and was just getting ready to order my kit. I was wondering about the machining. I know I need to get it bored over by 0.030" and get it flat decked. What about line honed? How much do they take off when they do that? Is there a certain amount for the bearings in the stroker kit?

The bearings that come in your stroker kit will work fine .A line hone doesnt require different bearings .What a line hone does is get the main bearing bores to the same dimention .Your machinist will grind a small amount lets say .005 off the main caps .Then he will hone the main bearing bores back to the factory spec.Find yourself a good machine shop and you will be fine .Doug

I like to line hone . This is important if you are changing to main studs or new bolts

I.m.o. honing the mains, in most applications, is a good idea. It's not clear to me what your application is but, in racing engines honing the main bearing housing bore to the 'high side' 3.193" is needed to get the clearance need.

Cutting the caps is needed only if the housing bore is too big...usually not the case with a 385 series BBF.
