C6 no 2nd gear
I finally got some time to try to race and realized I don't have 2nd gear. Tranny was fully rebuilt and I put it in to use and when I shift manually there isn't a 2nd gear.
This is a reverse shift tranny with Frank Merkyl's valve body. I emailed Frank but I bet hes busy on the farm, haven't heard back from him yet.
Any ideas?? Valve Body issue? or something mechanical in the tranny?
My tranny guy has cancer and had surgery so I really don't want to bother him.
Thanks Tore

Re: C6 no 2nd gear
Does it have 1st and 3rd ??
If it does, check the "wedge" that tightens the band, it may have back off or fallen out..
Don't ask how I know....

Do you have 3rd gear ? Your second gear isn't there at all ?

Re: C6 no 2nd gear
You will have to drop the VB to see the wedge . Might be a good Idea to drop the valve body and air check the servo !

After market.
This tranny was one I used a few years ago and it worked great. I pulled it to freshen up.no new parts.

If the servo and everything air checks with a good thump then I would see what Frank has to say! I would also drop the VB just to air check and see if the wedge fell out .

Air checking servo
On a c6 To air check the servo you need to remove the valve body .Hopefully when you do this you will find the wedge has fallen out and you wont need to air check the servo .You will need to get a picture of a c6 trans. that explains where the locations are to air check .There are two locations one applies the band and the other takes the band off .You need a long thin air nozzel i found mine at walmart .And when you do this get ready for a trans fluid bath!! I have built several c6s and the only time I have problems with the second gear shift is when I went with that damn sonnax servo .If you do a search there is a lot of sonnax servo problems on there mine included .Mr. Merkl has a fix for that servo and it works .Maybe your wedges somehow came out or the band is bad what ever it is we will try to help you .And if the band applies with air and isnt toast something in your valve body is the problem .If you cant get any one to help you give me a call 678 603 8400 .I am not a professional trans. builder just a pretty good backyard mechanic .Doug

Re: C6 no 2nd gear
Well I pulled the servo and I had to wiggle it out with 2 screwdrivers. It was tight. Off to the lathe.

Re: C6 no 2nd gear
Well I remachined the Sonnax Servo per Frank's spec and that didn't help. Drove it up and down the road no difference. So if I get a chance this week I will drop the valvebody and see if the wedges fell out.
Special thanks to Monomerc for answering a few question I had on this deal. called him on the ph and he was very helpful.
Thanks Tore

So did you get it to slide in and out smooth and with little drag ?
When you drop the Vb air check it before you put it back together. Goodluck

Never tried the air thing. Going to try to pull the valve body sometime this week.
