Could be the direct clutch pack? As said above, drop the pan.

How old is the converter and was it installed new or used ? what are the rpm's going to from first to second ?
Have you noticed any problems going to reverse ? Direct clutch drum is used for reverse and 3rd gear.
Last how old is trans and what condition was it in ( new or used ) when installed ?

Both tranny and converter are new 80 passes or so..it does have a tranny brake but is hardly used not any issues going in reverse seems fine..

If rpms have gone up thru all gear shifts and no reverse issuses or third gear flare!? I would look at converter and pump check fluid PSI ?johndickjr wrote:First to second is 7000 rpm

It dont flare 1-2 ..think it has been from 2-3..60ft is same(except last pass)1\8 time was same.. 1\4 mile was same but at 7500 not the normal 7000.. ill just pull it..its a pain in butt.hav to pull motor to get tranny out

If it is the direct clutch burned up with that few of passes then I would check.johndickjr wrote:It dont flare 1-2 ..think it has been from 2-3..60ft is same(except last pass)1\8 time was same.. 1\4 mile was same but at 7500 not the normal 7000.. ill just pull it..its a pain in butt.hav to pull motor to get tranny out
Direct clutch pack clearance and set it to .050 to .060
these clutches if set to tight will drag and burn up quickly and if set to loose will slip and burn up.
do not use smooth thin clutches in this drum .
I recomend using the waffle style .078 clutches and steels 4 will be fine in your application.
If you want to install 5 in it with these pm me and I will tell you how to do it.
Fluid PSI should be 200 or better.
The thin .060 smooth or waffle clutches are to thin in my opinion and do not desapate or remove the heat fast enough. then they start warping and you loose surface area.
smooth clutches in Foward drum and set it to .030 to .035
let me know if you need anything else
