Flywheel to dyno engine
I am going to dyno an engine and need an internally balanced flywheel. Will a flywheel from a 352/390 bolt up to my 460 crank and work?

Aren't all 460 flexplates neutral balance?

yes a 390 / 427 flywheel will work on the dyno just make sure it's a steel sfi rated one.
Can't use a 428 one they are external

Mmmmmmm... brings back old memories of using a flex plate instead of a flywheel coupled to a dyno

Re: Flywheel to dyno engine
I know Bud...it was my first session and I didn't have a clue what was going on. It all turned out good afterwards. But the question is.... how much hp will three 3/8 bolts hold up too?IDT-572 wrote:

Re: Flywheel to dyno engine
Can someone explain to me why a flexplate is a bad idea? I would think if it were an sfi approved plate and the proper balance it wouldn't be any different than the flywheel other than weight. On the dyno I go to the dyno driveshaft is bolted to an adapter that is bolted to the rear of the crankshaft and the flywheel/flexplate is sandwiched between the adapter and the crankshaft?

Re: Flywheel to dyno engine
The mount on the dyno is a flat plate and it needs a flat surface to mount to.
And 3 bolts is not a safe number when you start upping the hp and torque.
