Whats up with LP?????
Called to get the tank for my shop filled (just a small 120 gal tank) and they wanted $640 for 100 gal with payment up front. Normal is around $200 and they send me a bill. Says there is a shortage. I'm glad it was for the shop and I could say NO THANKS! I really feel sorry for folks that heat their house with LP.
My only problem now is finding a somewhat economical way to heat the shop. Think I will see if the gas company will run a line down to my shop....

They claim they exported to much back in the Spring cause they didn't expect this kind of winter. I agree with cool40, just another way to stick it to the working class dog.

It used to be called price gouging. It is still illegal in some states, especially durning natural disasters. Not enforced very often anymore. Too Bad

Re: Whats up with LP?????
It was on news sunday evening that the shortage is because we sold a great % of our surplus to china and then the cold cold weather came and now we "supposedly" now have a propane shortage. Propane here is now $4.50 gallon here.

YEP ... there IS a nationwide shortage of Propane right now due to the exceptionally colder weather over the entire country.
Re: Whats up with LP?????
We just had this discussion on the 1:50 minute ride home from work this evening. None of us have LP for a heat source and we all heat with firewood with oil furnaces as our secondary heat . So , Since some of you use LP gas for heat how does it equate in lbs to gallons of oil ???? . Will a lb of LP burn the same amount of time as a gallon of heating oil ?? By that I mean how much LP do you use and how much oil you would have used ? I did understand that the gas was a lot more inexpensive (was 1.75 and since has jumped to 2.95) and oil is @ 3.65 for a 150 gallon minimum delivery as of today.

Re: Whats up with LP?????
Hmmm, my local news radio said that was the problem with price increases. That there ISN'T a shortage.

Re: Whats up with LP?????
I understood that there is a stock pile shortage in the mid-west region and that the southern and eastern areas still had a vast amount of LP to be had. I also thought I heard on the news that the majority of the price increase was in relation to the extra travel and dire need of the cold stricken Mid-west region. Traveling farther, running 24-7 , and actually lifting restrictions on permits and driving time limits to aid in the transport. I have heard people talking here in MD and in WV where we are working that thier LP price has increased by nearly 1/3 in the past week, so I can only assume that it is price gouging if there is not a shortage in the entire US in general.

Re: Whats up with LP?????
The price has doubled here in my area,, middle TN. I use anywhere from 700-1000 gallon of LP a normal year but even then if its near 0*I fire up the wood stove. A customer of mine farms chickens and said his price was $3.5? And has a limit of how much he can get.SO....chicken prices will be up next! Lol

I think really cold weather would be where it would show good results. our county schools went that route but it didn't work out well.TravisRice wrote:cool40 wrote:Geothermal. ....

Re: Whats up with LP?????
Get a space heater or three and put them in the bedrooms at night, and turn the central heat lower. Saves a ton of money if you can work it right. Tell them to shove their LP up their A$$ with the price gouge. I could see rationing if it was in short supply, but not this. Did it cost the company any more to produce it? I don't believe this is Capitalism! Thats why there used to be laws against this sort of thing. I guess my old business book is out of date, and has been revised? I believe one state govoner has mentioned this.
