New Cam Dual Dowel Pins?
OK i just got my new (BAD A** OAKLEY EVAN SPEC"D CAM) and it's drilled for dual cam pins. They did not include the 2nd pin. Next How am i to have the cam gear drilled for this.. I'm sure there a logical answer but sometimes i'm dumb as a box of rocks

Re: New Cam Dual Dowel Pins?
The cam was delivered as ordered. Phillip will send you a 4340 steel Danny Bee pin for the 2nd hole.
Re: New Cam Dual Dowel Pins?
As far as getting the cam gear drilled for the second pin,,,a really good top quality machine shop in your area should be able to do this for you. If you don't have one in your area, send the cam gear in to Lem and he'll get Jet Boat Bob to machine it for you. He has a fixture for doing this on the Bridgeport.
It is very important that the machine shop be precise in locating and sizing this second hole. If you have to wallow things out in order to make it fit,,,,then the second dowell pin becomes as useless as tits on a boar hog.

Why? Why not save on shipping and go ahead and send your cam gear in, and then let the gear and second pin come back to you in one box?

Re: New Cam Dual Dowel Pins?
Ace,
More food for thought. Gary and J. J. Heber at Kearney Garage (303)333-7960 in Denver, CO should be able to do this, as they are BB Ford racers / engine builders.
Likewise Monte Green (970)774-6192 in Haxtun, CO is a BB Ford engine builder and racer. I know he can do it also.
I don't know how far you are from them, all I'm saying is the gear doesn't have to come here.
Hope this helps,
Charlie

Re: New Cam Dual Dowel Pins?
Ive had comp as well as a local drill the gear for the 2nd pin, no big deal.... I had lem send me a few extra pins to have on hand for when the need comes up later down the road.
All Cammotion cams come drilled for dble pins and 7/16-20 bolts as a standard, comp chrages extra which is a bunch of bs on a big solid roller.

Got a buddy with a lathe?
Turn one end of a 5/16" rod down to sharp point. Polish the other end so that It'll go in the pin hole with zero clearence.
Cut the rod so when install in the cam it'll be no more than 1/2" the lenght of the install pin.
Bolt the gear on the cam and tap with a hammer.
You should now have a witness mark of where the center of the hole needs to be.....carefully drill the hole.
If you have a transfer punch set you could cut one of them off rather than do the lathe work.

Bolt the gear for marking on the can snout "backwards" as the step in the gear makes it VERY tough to drill a straight hole without an end-mill and a bridgeport; although it CAN be done if starting with a small drill and working up to size.

There are no machine shops around you? Not engine machine shops, machinists. Bridgeport, lathes, surface grinders. Any machinist should be able to do this for you.

Re: New Cam Dual Dowel Pins?
If your cam is drilled and tapped for 7/16-20 bolt, use a good hardened pin like Danny Bee sells and a nice used ARP2000 rod bolt, torque to 70# and don't sweat it.
If it's a 7/16-14 go here and buy an extreme strength... http://www.mcmaster.com/#standard-cap-screws/=r62q0v

Good response,
But also add a heavy thick 5/16th thick minimum washer as big in diameter or close to the diameter of the end of the cam, or as large as possible. The clamping force is your major securing effort not the pin.
I use a small chevy harmonic balancer washer alot.
