Dowel Pins Empty Dowel Pins

Post  BigDave65 March 21st 2010, 7:20 pm

Was wondering if you guys had any slick ideas to remove the tranny dowels from the back of the block. I have a CJ block we are using a mid-plate and JW bellhousing and really need to use longer dowels to locate the bellhousing. Are the factory dowel pins soft enough to just drill out? Thanks in advance!

Vice Grip pliers, or a hammer and punch will usually do it. Cool

I've tried vise grips and they wouldn't budge. These things are stuck pretty good. I'm still open for any suggestions. Thanks again guys.

Take a propane plumbers torch and heat the block around where the dowels are, don't heat the dowels though, should loosen them up a little. If you do get heat on the dowels, just put an ice cube on the dowels to cool them and they should come free. Cool

Or after the flame from the torch is out... a little canned air through a tube will isolate some cooling, but only after the flame is OUT. LOL

Use heat from a torch and vice grips.
