Car sticks fine now. Besides I priced a glass front clip, 1000 bucks to my door, I'll build a lighter "cooling system" than you. Besides I dont need all that bulky ass radiator and fan, the wonders of alky................

Re: Water tank in trunk.
Man this 20 gal per minute pump on 16v is a monster.
Decided to not do the trunk tank, gonna do the 2 quart deal up front for now. If it does give me fits with heat this summer I am going to put soome fittings on the tank so i can put a tranny cooler in line and put it under the trunk with a fan like I did the actual tranny cooler.
Took an old alum oxygen cyl and cut the flat bottom off, tapped the hole where the valve was and put a 90* 12an fitting there to feed the pump. I experimented with outlet positions in the tank, and after a few hours came up with a solution that wouldn't blow water everywhere, aerate, or cause such a whirpool in the tank the pickup actually sucked air.
Try and get some pics of everything as i finalize it and before i weld it all up. Gonna use a reg rag cap bung on top, and run the vent line into the trunk where the overflow can is.
I'm even considering using the Evans coolant this go round, just to keep the possibility of hot spots out of the heads.
Its winter, and I'm bored lol. Did manage to get the smallblock in the 81 and hang the headers for mock up.

Will the cylinder walls have any chance to get the same type hot spots?
What about some other fluid than water? Would heat alone move the fluid/water if a small expansion tank was mounted higher than the intake & heads.
We raced for 2 seasons with a dry block in a mud drag truck on gas. No adverse affects that I know.

Thats lookin great!! Nice welds. That sure is gonna save a bunch of lbs over the rad etc.
Do you have any weights of the rad, water, hoses, etc vs the new set up?

Re: Water tank in trunk.
Its gonna net a 25# loss, dont sound like much, but it also unclutters the front of the eng bay.
Like I say this may not prove to be enough cooling in the summer, so I left provisions to plumb hoses into the system and i'll run a set of -6 lines to the rear of the car and use a tranny cooler with a fan. The pump has enough volume to pull it through the cooler as well.

25# can be hard to come by. I'm not going to say anything about 1/2 lb cheese burgers.....oops!!
Cleaning up the engine bay is a good thing too!!

Re: Water tank in trunk.
everyone says you need the bigger pump, IMO the 55 gpm is way too much, I never had cooling issues with this one even on gas.

NHRA rules state that ,1.1 All cooling systems/radiators must be installed in the stock location for the body style used

Yep big debate in that thread on the bullet................I see lotsa fast cars with um back there ............racing.
Only time I ever saw NHRA tech serious is a divisional...............none of these guys run them lol.
There is a lot of grey area there anyway.

Tech at the 1/8th mile track here is I fill out the card and brother runs it up to the tower............
I doubt any of these guys that are set up this way will make it up there for a race so I wouldn't sweat it.
Besides when was that rule written? ...............food for thought.

Re: Water tank in trunk.
I don't know if this was mentioned in the YB thread (too damn long to read) but with a water tank in the trunk you will be adding some of the weight loss right back into the car from the 20' or so feet of water line to & from the trunk & the water weight in said lines.

Re: Water tank in trunk.
yeah I know, thats the reason I axed the tank idea. Got the tank all plumbed and running, lost 25 #'s, system holds 2.75 gallons total. What weight I did put back with the tank is all on the motorplate vs being hung out in the nose.
